Hi

I work at a special school (very small <50 students) and have a couple of questions:

I'd like a single sign in system so that when our students log in to the school's computers they have immediate access to email, apps etc. Is RM Unify the best option for this and are there alternatives (I'd particularly like this feature for our iPads too).

Secondly, is anybody aware of reduced rates for special schools / such small schools?

Many Thanks

Wonde may be an alternative from what I have seen, not used it myself but you can actually have QR codes that get scanned to sign them into services.

Wonde is certainly an option. As long as the device has a camera, you can just hold up a QR Code, essentially a pass and it will log in. You can also set student passwords as emoji passwords too.

Works well with Chromebooks & G-Suite for Education at one of my schools, so you can log in and have all the G-Suite apps ready to sue, as they are associated with the student's G-Suite account.

We use RM Unify and it works really well for us. We have the single sign in setup and RM Unify set as the users default web page. We have links to things like GCSEPod, Doddle and Office365

I think the licence cost is based on the number of students so you might be able to get a discount

We use RM unify here.

Compared to other things I've used it's a killer app IMHO. It just works. I can add tiles for staff (teaching/non-teaching or both), students etc. It saves people having to remember URLs, web-pages etc. Works with Office 365 for us. That and a sync from our MIS overnight creates new accounts for users as required.

I'm hopefully getting rid of RM unify - not cost effective. A lot of websites can now sign in with office 365 and we have one 3rd party product which will not let us sign in with office 365 because the authentication goes via RM and it won't pass the credentials through to the 3rd party site,.

We use RM Unify and although I think it's a good product the cost is crept up more and more for us as a secondary school over the years. It's more than likely we will look to Setup Azure AD and look to move to Salamandersoft or Ruler to create the groupings etc.

RM Unify Premium for schools with under 500 pupils: £745

RM Unify Premium for schools with over 500 pupils: £1495

When I initially purchased for us as a secondary I think it was £495 !

I looked at Wonde at BETT - and do see huge potential for it in our primaries and for you as a special school.

I believe it's possible for Wonde to still use a standard Google login but still do the SSO side of things, so I can see it working in secondary schools too. I don't think you're limited to using the QR and emoji passwords. Don't quote me on that though!

£1500 for a glorified shortcut screen!

True

But that's what £3 a student?

I'm sure a lot of us could rig up something similar with the shortcuts etc but for £3? Our time spent doing it would cost more. Each school will vary but my 2-cents support time is better spent doing stuff that actually improves the school, education etc. If that's one thing I can spend less time doing that and more time on more important things - I'd call that a win!

Thanks for all your responses.

Regarding Wonde, would students be able to use the single sing-in functionality on both iPads and Macs?

Sorry - I'd love a system that could "sing-in". What pop tune would you have? :-)

Reach out I'll be there by the Supremes?

On topic. We use RM Unify and SSO and provisioning is great. We are a fair size primary so just about worth it. We may look at Azure and Wonde in future.
