Does anyone know what VGA driver is required for a 2009 Generation iMac 21.5 with the Intel board? I'm trying to install W10 on one, and its not officially supported. I've got it all working though apart from the VGA driver which is simply showing as the Microsoft Basic Display adaptor.

It think its AMD 4850 from I can find from searches, but no drivers I download work, including when trying the Bootcamp ones. Its a bit of a vague hope but I thought I might be able to run LTSC on these to squeeze a bit more life out of them!

I thought those 2009 iMacs have an Nvidia Geforce 9400 unless the AMD card (either 4670 or 4850) was specced in. Have you tried the contemporary Nvidia driver?

Can you not get the VEN_ and DEV_ IDs from Device Manager, and google those? Or is Microsoft Basic Display masking those?

We had some 2009 imacs and I've just looked at our old bootcamp driver package and looks like Nvidia as already mentioned. Let me know, if you can't lay your hands on the bootcamp drivers and I'll see if I can get them to you.

I've tried Nvidia and AMD packages and both tend to come up with the same sort of message, ie. the computer doesn't meet the minimum specifications. I'm not sure if LTSC is causing an issue, or whether I'll have to dig out an older driver

Yay! We have a result! It was indeed the Geforce 9400 - the vendor id wasn't helping me to find that. Downloaded an older Win7 x64 driver package from Nvidia and its working now

Cheers for the input! These macs may live to fight another day, although they might want to top themselves if they realise they're running W10 ;-)

You need to find out whether you have a MB950LL/A or a MC413LL/A as they have different graphics cards. If it is Nvidia, it's technically a notebook gpu, so you'd have to use the notebook driver.

EDIT: nevermind!
