Where do you all work?

I work in an open plan L shaped IT suite in a big space on the corner I share with my deputy. Servers are next to us in a secure area, we have desks, benching, kettle, fridge freezer and a guest chair for @witch to visit. We also have a second area elsewhere in the school for a quiet place and storage.

 

I love working open plan, listening to lessons, chatting with staff and students, generally being front of house but my deputy hates it. I’m also lucky in that security isn’t a major issue so nothing ever goes missing.

In an environment where there is only 1 or 2 in the IT dept then I think you need to be in an enclosed space/office/cupboard

 

The reason for this is clear - if you are working on a computer and have it in bit then you really don;t want anyone messing about with it

you also need to be able to leave everythign where it is if you get called away - and not have to clear it all away and put it somewhere else if you get called on

 

and, of course, we all have lots of tools and 'interesting things' that we use to do our job. We don;t really want to have people messing with them or having access to this sort of area unsupervised

 

so we need an environment that can be secured

 

Over the last 15 years or so I have worked in several different school - all with different spaces for IT Techs - from something the size of a small classroom - all to me

to a small room/cupboard just big enough for 2 tables and a chair

 

I suppose you work with what you have - but any large project may well need space to sort it all out

if you work during holidays then you can just take over the nearest classroom for a few days to get things sorted - but if you are term time only then SMT need to allocate space

My IT office is in a spacious attic which i share with my Network Manager which contain 2 desks, one dumping ground desk, plenty of shelves, a separate room for storage, fire exit with a balcony, 4k TV and some comfy chairs (server room is located downstairs which used to be a toilet). We did a big cleanout recently because when i started 6 months ago, it was a junkyard but now it looks amazing it's well secluded, so if i need to vent to my boss then nobody can hear which is a bonus.

 

Only downside is the fluctuating temperature due to the lack of insulation, but i wouldn't change it for the world

Our office was sectioned off from an IT room in the IT block.then at the bottom of the office another room sectioned off as the server room so behind 2 doors.

I'm based in one of our new blocks (10 Yrs old). My office is pretty tight probably 4*4M with direct access to the server room, which is about the same size.

 

Just some benching and Paxton on my door and I'd be happy.
