Hi All,

We are seeing a problem from student accounts (potentially created by access restrictions in GPO I appreciate....)

Whereby randomly a student will be working in an office application, predominantly PowerPoint - and after their lesson will go to save their work they receive an error saying "Unable to save file" - when trying to save to anywhere - their network hosted redirected home space; a usb save after then generates the same error.

If you open another instance and copy/paste the content you receive the same error.

The only way around it is to copy all content, completely close all instances of the application, and then open the application again.

This is driving the kids nuts and not helping productivity - and driving me nuts as I can't pinpoint the cause!

Many Thanks,

Graham

Hi Graham,

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? We had this on Office 2016 and then have moved to Office 2021 and the issue has followed. Its so strange and intermittent its very hard to fix.

Thanks

I'd try and ask teaching staff to ask the students to save the document when they initially start working on it. Then at the end of lesson the students just have to click save and at regular intervals through the lesson encourage them to click save as well. This might give you more time to deal with the issue instead a rush first save at the end of the lesson and find they can't

Many years back we had a student in on the holidays who'd been working on a document for 3 hours without saving once. In this case we jus copied and pasted into a new document and then the student saved no problem.
