Hi all

I have had for a while a truly annoying issue where whilst trying to install adobe cs4 it begins with a progress meter checking system requirements. It gets to about 90%, and the the eula agreement and the where you would enter the product code window briefly appears then disappears. This leaves the progress meter hanging at 90% until you taskkill it.

Despite not installing, it does put an entry in programs and features which you are unable to uninstall nor does the cs4 cleanup toolkit detect any installation of cs4.

Has anyone come across anything like this. I been working on this since just before Xmas and it bugging me now.

Thanks in advance

Nope, but I'd question the filtering. Is it a laptop you can either take home and try the install on, or set up a hot spot to connect to to rule it out?

No don’t think it is filtering related.

I am steering towards an obscure prequisite software or conflicting software.

I found today to my surprise that it installed on a computer on our network fine on an old imaged machine. In stead of flashing the eula screen it presented correctly ready to put the license key in.

If I reimagined the machine and tried installing cs4 the symptoms previously described present themselves.

I have looked at program and features and there are only a few differences in software. The ones I have added I have temporarily disabled in sccm ts (didn’t make a difference)

Core software has been updated which what make me now suspect something missing or some other software conflicting causing the symptoms but not yet found difference.

Any takers?

Some progress.

Last night I deployed windows 10 with core apps only and bingo cs4 installed

These include

Adobe reader

Chrome

Silver light

Office 2016

Laps

Java 8

Papercut client

Vlc

So...

One of my curriculum apps is breaking things

I’m going to be working through each one individually but value anyone’s opinion on which the culprit is.

Any friendly wagers. Place your bets now

that’s the first one I tried

I am glad I didn't bet any money! 🤣

Another thought I had was processes that conflict with the installation of CS4...

https://helpx.adobe.com/enterprise/package/help/resolving-process-conflicts.html

If one of your curriculum app installers opens a process that is listed above, Creative Suite will fail to install.

IIRC there should be a log file somewhere that should list the reason why the install is failing.

When you run the installer it starts creating a .log file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Installers but upon finishing the install or it bombing out changes it to a .gz. Extract the log file from this with 7zip and you can either open it with notepad++ to make it easier to read or if your an SCCM person like me open it with Configuration Manager Trace Log Tool and it should at least highlight errors in red making them easier to find.

Ok i dont know if this is going to help but this is how i packaged and run my installer from SCCM. I use the setup.exe files because i found the uber installers and uninstaller generated with the Adobe CS4 deployment toolkit did some really really strange things.

I have ripped all my source files from 4 discs to folder where all my SCCM applications\packages live. In the Adobe CS4 folder aswell as the files ripped from the discs I have 3 batch files (Record, Install and Uninstall).

Record.bat "%~DP0setup.exe" --record=1

Install.bat "%~DP0setup.exe" --mode=silent --deploymentFile="%~DP0install.xml"

Uninstall.bat "%~DP0setup.exe" --mode=silent --deploymentFile="%~DP0remove.xml"

• On a computer that doesn’t have Adobe already installed run the record script. If you try to run it on a computer where it is already installed it doesn’t run the record correctly and you wont be prompted for half the stuff you need.

• On the Welcome screen input your serial number and press next, accept the EULA, select custom install and tick or untick the products you need to and press install.

• This then generates 2 XML files located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Installers.

• Copy these to your Adobe sourcefiles folder where the ripped media and batch files are and for ease rename them to install.xml and remove.xml then when you run the install or uninstall batch files it will reference these xml files and install the payloads etc it needs to.

Found the software....

Drum roll 🥁

It was a piece of software called LogIT.

Not found why yet but evidently it causes issues with cs4 installer

Thank you for everyone’s contribution

Be good to know why LogIT causes it if you find out. We have it at my place but never known it to cause this issue with Adobe.

Thanks for you email,

You can install logit after cs4 and doesn’t seem to cause issues, it’s just if you try install cs4 after logit.

can I still compare your install script as I have done the record method as you suggested however when I cmd line the install

..\setup.exe —mode=silent —deploymentfile ..\install.xml

Where the xml is the file generated from the record sequence

I receive a exit code 7 which denote silent workflow error

Running the same cmd but in full gui mode shows no errors. I do however have to enter the serial code and choose what to install which I didn’t expect to do having specified the deployment file

Any advice welcome

CS3 has the same command line. Back when my school used it, I remember I had to use a UNC path to the XML file. Setup.exe didn't like relative paths.

You're also missing an = for deploymentfile.

Yup your right. I do have the = in my actual script but when i copy and pasted into the post some of the characters went a bit mental so i had to edit it in the post and accidentally deleted the =.

Have your -- gone a bit mad before mode and deployment file? You seem to have — above

Yeah they are all double dashes and I do have an = after deployment file.

However I still get exit code 7

Could you redact and email me your syntax you use to compare?
