If pricing becomes a problem, Nakivo apparently does pretty much the same thing but at a lower price than Veeam.

Useful alternative, but no free version.

 

I wonder how good Windows Backup is these days.

we use windows backup on all our hosts and it has been rock solid for many many years. had to do a good few vm restores during that time and not had any issues.
