We recently upgraded ActivInspire to version 2.17, and a problem has come up when we have multiple users on a computer.

If we have User1 logged on and using ActivInspire, when User2 comes along, uses Switch User and then tries to open ActivInspire, it crashes. There are a few different ways that Inspire.exe might die, either with an error message or silently, or in a few cases it has been activdashboard.exe. Either way, I can reproduce a failure if you have two people logged onto one machine, trying to use the program.

We use Switch User a fair bit in the school, we're a primary so it's usually just the class teacher, but we do have language, music and art teachers that drop in to teach classes during the day.

Is there a fix for this, or is it a known bug? We upgraded from 2.9, where this wasn't an issue.

Thanks!

Hi Dave,

This has been notice in the latest version of ActivInspire and it has been escalated to the development team. You can check out https://support.prometheanworld.com/

for updates to ActivInspire and other products on the bottom half of the page.

The fix will be in a future version after V2.17.68075

Thanks

Thanks for confirming that @DangPro.

Do you know what sort of timescale we're expecting on that? If it's not going to be this side of Christmas, I will probably roll back to v2.9 in the meantime.

*bump*

Any idea on a rough timescale for this @DangPro?

Not that I'm desperate for a quick resolution, but if it's going to be a while, I'll roll back to an older version.

Thanks!

Just tested, and can confirm that this bug is not fixed in 2.18.68238, just tested on Windows 10.

Any indication when 2.19 might be out?

I've heard nothing as yet - it's also quite frustrating as you can't find out the current version number (to see if it's been updated) without registering, downloading and extracting the software :/

Had a response from Promethean so will keep our fingers crossed.

"This should be fixed in the next March/April release of 2.19, though I cannot guarantee it, it's something we're hoping to solve."

Thanks for that feedback, I was thinking of chasing this up with them directly myself.

Seems like a pretty fundamental flaw to me, I thought it would merit a bit more response than "something we're hoping to solve", but there we go

Hi Dave,

This will be addressed in 2.19 that is scheduled for May. For now you can use 2.15, here is a link https://promethean.box.com/s/cccdc06lb2ej04ehpe3vue7ijrh32k82. To receive notification about our updates, please sign up for announcement from our support community. Here is a link to register https://community.prometheanworld.com/forums/

Thanks

Good to know, thanks!

Most people have learnt to work round it, but a new release in May sounds ideal, might end up rolling that out over the summer.
