Can a Schools Broadband customer just test something for me

I have a site struggling to run BBC Bitesize. It is not a filtering issue, the error states the content is not available in my location. Suggests they see the traffic coming from a different country?

 

This is an example of a video we are trying to watch, although multiple ones do it https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zcvv4wx/articles/z9brcwx - the page loads and the preview of the video loads, but as soon as you press play you get the error.

 

I cannot get onto a client device to fully test, but does this on the server which is completely unfiltered.

 

I have tried a few different sites and they do work.

Did you sort this ? checked a couple of sites and some work fine and some get content is not available from your location

Could you pm what ip you get from whatismyip.com or simular? All our IPs are RIPE registered in the UK, but I can check for you? Sorry you haven't had a reply from our support team.

We raised this Friday as BBC iplayer content wont run with a banner stating we are outside the uk. Whaysmyip and geolocation on it recognises as UK based, as well as Google, Bing and Yahoo all saying we are in the UK.

 

Chased it up today and the response was that SBB NOC has been in touch with BBC NOC to try to resolve the issue as it appears to be a BBC issue.

We have had a ticket open with SBB for over a week now and have chased this a few times. Content from iPlayer and BBC Bitesize won't play as the BBC think we are not in the UK, despite whatsmyip showing our IP address as UK based. The bbc.co.uk website redirects to bbc.com and this behaviour has definitely started since the BBC switched to supporting a single domain worldwide.

 

Despite a number of calls to SBB we are getting no feedback as to any progress, thanks to cullingsh suggesting the NOC team are speaking to the BBC to get a resolution as this is another issue affecting T&L and I have nothing from SBB to pass on to SLT.

I work in a school with 2 campuses and we use Talk Straight / School Broadband as our ISP.

1 campus can get to BBC iPlayer/Bitesize. (via inlineproxy15.schoolsbroadband.net)

1 campus can't get to BBC iPlayer/Bitesize. “This content is not available in your location.” & “BBC iPlayer on works in the UK. Sorry, it’s due to rights issues.” (via inlineproxy14.schoolsbroadband.net).

I have also logged a ticket about this.

Just to follow up from my post earlier, we are having exactly the same problem with ITV, CH4, Amazon Prime etc, so this does not look to be purely a BBC problem. Can anyone else try a few different sites to test that I am not alone in this please. BBC seem to be suggesting that because traffic is routed via a proxy server they cannot guarantee that the site is UK based despite the IP being registered, which would suggest the issue lies with schoolsbroadband.

 

Just to prove a point, I have an external router in my office to test staff Direct Access connections on their domain joined laptops. If I log on to our domain using this external route, all of the links we are having UK based issues with in school play perfectly, so come on schoolsbroadband, this is almost as big an issue for schools as the recent filtering debacle.

Hmm, this appears to be a problem specific to inlineproxy14. Here's a good one for those of you on inlinefilter14, can you get to schoolsbroadband.co.uk without getting a certificate error?

Neither of my campuses can access schoolsbroadband.co.uk

so it doesn't work on inlineproxy14 or inlineproxy15

Schools Broadband / Talk straight have just moved us onto a different Filter / external IP

inlineproxy13 & inlineproxy10 both have access to BBC iPlayer etc.

Yep, just spotted that and can now get into all of the sites that wouldn't stream. Still get the certificate error on schoolsbroadband's own website though....

Hi bentleyboy, I'm not aware of any cert errors on the site. Unless its related to the MitM SSL cert. The cert in question is valid until February and the cert path also appears correct.

 

As regards the BBC issue, we are still investigating and looking into some reports from the BBC and our Vendor. Hopefully those of you who've been moved are better now, but let me know what if anything I can do.

Hi Mat, Thanks for the reply, I've PM'd you on the cert issue but here's a couple of sreenshots for you to consider. As for the BBC problem, this was not just a problem with BBC streaming services, it was the same when trying to stream from ITV. Ch4 and Amazon Prime, so clearly not a BBC problem. From the posts above it also seemed to be only affecting schools on certain inlineproxies, in our case inlineproxy14.
