Mirroring software PC to iPad

Looking for recommendations for some sort of mirroring software so that a visually impaired child can see what is on the big screen on a small screen in their hands. Currently they have iPads. The big screen is run by a windows PC

Is this possible - everything I see goes the other way, from iPad to PC?

 

If it isnt possible the child can use a small laptop

 

Free is best, cheap is OK

If they are on the same network... TightVNC (or another free VNC) could be installed on the desktop/laptop and then a VNC app from the App Store installed on the iPad.

 

You would need to set a View Only password.

 

It would be worth creating scripts to enable or disable the service on the desktop/laptop... as you don't want them working on some data sensitive work and the kid being able to see it on the iPad.

Don't want the child to be able to control the other PC but cant see where you would set a view only password

Also, those websites are really confusing - do I install it on both ends? Can't have anything where the teachers have to enter anything too confusing?

You have to install the VNC Server client on the machine, and just a VNC Viewer on the iPad.

 

You can get a view only password by right clicking the icon in the System Tray, selecting Configuration... and on the Server tab press the Set... button for view only password.

we do this with a student using Tight VNC on the teacher PC and the Remote Ripple app (£2.99 ish ?) on the

student's ipad.

I'm not sure its the best solution but was recommended by someone external so I set it up and not had

any support calls on it so far which is a plus

Had this same issue with a visually impaired child as well a few years ago. Ended up buying a licence for net support tutor for each of their teachers and 1 pupil licence.

 

It’s the same software used by teachers in the big ICT suites to control the class. The teacher broadcasts their name then the student uses the pupil app on the iPad to join their class. The teachers screen is mirrored to the iPad and the pupil can zoom in on their iPad without it affecting the teachers screen.

The issue we’ll have with many of these solutions is that our student owned devices are on a different subnet that isn’t routed across. I don’t want these devices on our main WiFi SSID and range. That’s why I thought Teams/Skype could work, though it’s probably more complex it may also fit with the normal classroom workflow.

we use this its not free but works great. We push the software to all staff computers and they use a QR code and bang!

Do you have any classroom management software like Impero? Can probably broadcast the screen that way.
