Hey all

Just migrated all our VMs to a new Server at a School

We currently have 2 VMS

1) DC

2) Data Server (Student Files/Teachers Files/Profiles/Shared Folder/SIMS)

We have a seperate disk for Sims data only and another for all the Shared file

Around 6 admin staff

host is 96GIG RAM

What would you guys recommend for RAM Memory Allocation for the DC and the Data Server?

Its a primary school around 50 teachers 400 Students roughly

Is the data server runny anything else? Our SIMS server is currently allocated 16GB of RAM and runs fine our DCs both have dynamic RAM enabled and don't use much more than about 4GB

I’d recommend that you split off some roles from the second VM, if licensing allows. A file server will cope with 4GB, same as a DC, but SIMS will want plenty more than that - 16GB as a minimum even if your DB is relatively small.

You seem to have more than enough ram, plus hyper-v can allocate as needed. Database ram should be as big as the database if possible.

Are you using all SSDs? Assume so as it's a new server.
