So this is a bit of a response to the PlusNet one as I see they haven't been very good quite recently so I thought I'd post about the companies we are happy with to give good feedback about personal broadband companies.

Currently I'm with BT and have to say, though they might not be the cheapest they've been really good to me, speed has always been the best even when I lived out in the sticks and any issues they resolve quickly. Every time I've called their customer support up it's been a British call centre and they're always polite and helpful!

On another note I just got a call from them as they since dropped the price of their 150mbps package and as a result will be moving me from 75mbps to double the speed at no extra cost! :D

I have had no issues with BT as a consumer but I have a few stories from a professional aspect for sure. It is amazing the mix of customer satisfaction.

I left VirginMedia for the second time 4 years ago for BT and moved to a business contract with BT about 2 years ago for public IP addresses. No bad experiences so far. I started using a DrayTek router from second week into the contract and although they said they could not support it I have had no problems what so ever.

I have had nothing but problems with BT. Sky on the other hand as an ISP, absolutely fine.

Likewise. We dumped BT for Sky at home and got a line that stayed connected and our speed trebled.

I spent months arguing with overseas Call centres and when we did eventually get someone from Openreach out they admitted they had followed our line all the way back to the exchange and still couldn’t keep it connected.

Never had a niggle since being with Sky and no desire to go near BT ever again.

I'll be honest, I've done nothing buy swap to the cheapest provider once a year (or whenever the deal runs up).. Much of a muchness, haven't had good or bad experiences with any of them.

My recent experience with BT has been good too. I was very dubious when they called to review my current package, but they did reduce the price and increase the speed (not cheapest, but within reach of competitors). On a whim I asked them about BT Complete WiFi - I've run Unifi with a Draytek router for years, but one of the Powerline adaptors I used to connect the APs to the router had died. They sent out the current home hub and one disc and miraculously I got coverage throughout my house, although it was fairly weak in places. I was running four Unifi units to achieve the same. The promise was good coverage, so I contacted them via webchat and no questions asked, they sent another two discs next day delivery. With three discs and the hub I have good coverage throughout the house. I don't have a media server, so don't know the actual network speed, but even in the furthest corner the wireless client shortest is within 2% of the wired speed directly connected to the router. I've always struggled with multiple HD video streams, but it all works like the advert says.

Do Sky run their own cables? Otherwise you are running on BT copper, and relying on Sky to argue with BT. OK, thy will have more clout then you...

Very much on BT cables, but Sky have their own equipment in the exchange apparently. And the instant improvement in line speed and stability indicate that it was in better shape than whatever BT was using at the time.

I was with Virgin Media just over a year ago, but the connection would drop regularly and repeatedly, they reported "issues in the area" and engineers were on it, but it went on for weeks and weeks. As I work from home, the stability was having a massive impact (more than just a minor annoyance).

I cancelled Virgin, activated the BT line and joined Zen - and it's been fantastic. There's a green cabinet at the end of my (short) street so my sync speed is great, and there's no bandwidth limit. They now have a liftime price guarantee and recently lowered their prices. Can't fault them at all :)

Sky do LLU, but still rely on openreach for the cabinet work.

My parents just moved, previous owner was on Sky. They went with talktalk as cheapest with phone calls included, that was a waste of time, pretty sure the website still says "You'll be connected on 18th September".

So went with Sky, on the theory that at least the line is already connected. Nope, the SMS'd to say they've sent openreach out, who said there was a problem with the line. And then SMS to say "You're connect now, yay". Nope.

Used their website to say it's not working, and another engineer was booked, who said the previous person had just left it unconnected in the green box, connected it, done.

Sky Q router is rubbish though, no guest wifi, steals your dns queries, internal webserver seems to have issues, jquery from 2011.
