Switch User Option

Does anyone know the implication of the 'Switch User' option in Windows 10 if used in a network environment ? Pros / Cons ?

USB devices (ie Whiteboards) stay with the first logged on user in our case, not helpful!

Con: no one logs out, computers slow down. An idle logout system would probably be useful on shared machines.

 

As Win 10 is so stable the computers rarely get rebooted, so it does get to be an issue.

 

Pro: if someone forgets to log out you can still use the computer, also good for ITS, as we don't need to log someone out or try to force Windows to elevate something.

We use it her and it great on the desktops because they get switched off every evening. On the netbook which tend to just have the lid closed we have got to the point that you can't log on because the machine has no resources left however, without user switching this would have been a case of you can't log on because the netbook is locked.

 

We implemented it because we implemented a screen locking GPO but I would not take it off.

Mainly cons, pros only for devices that are likely to be hotdesked...

 

I disable it for student devices and classroom PCs. Leave it for offices

Skype for business stops working properly if more than one person is logged in.

Then again Skype for Business is being replaced by MS Teams

We use switch user for staff and the main issue is staff leaving document open and forgetting where they last opened the document :facepalm:

 

Rebooting the PC can annoy staff as they jump up and down saying they didnt save the document etc......

 

Other than that, no real issues.
