Popular Post Jawloms Posted July 11, 2019 Popular Post Posted July 11, 2019 Dry wipe board on the wall. And yes, I am one of those people who if I do something extra will write it on the bottom of the list just to cross it straight out again. 5

kennysarmy Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 I use OneNote to manage my holiday works, specifically using the checkboxes/tasks options. The OneNote document is shared between me and my manager, so we can both see/amend it at the same time. It may not be the most elegant, but it works for us. Same here.
DrBeaker Posted July 11, 2019 Author Posted July 11, 2019 Thanks for al the useful ideas everyone. I appreciate the feedback and some very useful ideas amongst everyone here. I think you can get a Kanban plugin for teams if you want to be digital or if not a board with sticky notes (brand neutral :-P) draw the outline of a Kanban board then just move the notes around... I'd never even heard of this Kanban board thing until your post. I've since read up and watched a few videos on the topic, it seems quite useful and simple enough to use. I need to keep track of the big jobs and small jobs, jobs that involve others like site, contractors etc, jobs that have been started - but simple enough to manage by myself as it's going to be me keeping the list updated etc and also me doing the work. So I don't want to burden myself with pointless admin work. E.g. I tried to put this into a word doc but it seems like it's going to be very convoluted to update and track. 1
slears Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Spiceworks for job logging and prioritisation. Two whiteboards in my office and good old notepad. [emoji3]
Djmonky1 Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 We have a white board in the office and just write on that for holiday jobs, an email id sent around the office and mangers so they know what is happening normally we are getting sent off to outher sites to help out with long term jobs there Some times use the helpdesk if a ticket was raised by one of us or a member of staff
bossman Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 +1 Trello here... Straight forward to use and gets the jobs done!...
keyboards Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 From looking quickly is Trello just like an upscale Google Keep with more functionality
Diello Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 Just to be slightly different to consensus on here... We use Xmind (mind maps) for our general tasks and planning. Free version is good, although we have the Pro version as you can add task info to this, and it has an Gantt chart. Great way to see tasks in different formats. Although we do use GanttProject to plan out our summer schedule and bigger projects as this creates a better overview. Teams & Planner are something we are starting to look at for general helpdesk jobs though.
localzuk Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 Currently using Teams with Planner here. But we're moving to Google Apps next year, so that may change!
DrBeaker Posted July 18, 2019 Author Posted July 18, 2019 Building upon the Trello and Kanban board, I've set one up on a physical whiteboard and going to try that over the summer to see how well it works.
HPlum78 Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 @mhaddock good luck with your hybrid setup, all of these solutions need to be have a unique take on them to make work for you. Hope it works out. H.
jthompson Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 The problem I find with scheduling things is that it's not always clear how long some things will take. Whilst some things have clear prerequisites, it's often not worth sticking them in a gantt chart or calendar. Just having a flat list and being very familiar with what items are on there seems to do the trick for me mostly (small team of only two here). We're going to try Trello for a bit: basically just a list app with some useful bells and whistles like links to docs, comments, etc. to save a bit of time. The mobile app is decent, too, which might be useful. I use Google Tasks for the minor little trivial day-to-day things, but there's no sharing of lists currently.
localzuk Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Indeed @jthompson - we give a rough time on our jobs, but the planner in Teams allows me to assign people to them easier, and figure out roughly what we can get done in the time we have. Strict "this will take 1 day" type things simply don't happen - things go wrong far too often, especially in our old buildings!
