ictgoodpractice Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 (edited) I am still researching the NanoHd and other parts of Wireless network. How many have put the Cloud key in please. Also do you need to have either USG? Thanks if you can help Edited July 7, 2019 by ictgoodpractice typos
Primus Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 We run the controller as a VM. Certain functionality requires the USG if you want to run that functionality through the Unifi software - we don't have a USG. 1
Jcx500 Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 My cloud key gen1 has had problems recently constant crashing , I’m going to upgrade to gen2 or move to a 2016 vm
AJWhite1970 Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 One of my controllers is on a Win 2016 server, the other is a Cloud Key v1 running firmware 1.06 Both are rock solid. I’ve also got a gen 2+ sat on the test bench ready to test this week
ictgoodpractice Posted July 8, 2019 Author Posted July 8, 2019 Do you prefer it on the server or the key please?
localzuk Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 All depends on your needs. If you only have a couple of Unifi devices, a cloud key will work fine. If you've got a lot more, then it would likely struggle. The sizing recommendations are: Gen 1 - 1000 connected clients on the network, 1 switch, 23 APs Gen 2 - 2000 connected clients on the network, 10 switches, 40 APs Gen 2 Plus - As Gen 2 but with ability to control cameras too. If, like us, you have more devices than that, you can look at: XG-Server - a rackmount appliance Running the controller in a VM/on your own hardware. If you overload a key, they will crash constantly. We moved to the XG server here. Been solid really.
Davit2005 Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 You do not need the USG or Unifi Switches. Management is a whole lot easier if you do but Unifi misses a whole load of Enterprise features and may not suit bigger organisations needing resiliency etc.
ictgoodpractice Posted July 8, 2019 Author Posted July 8, 2019 I am very small scale, 6 /7 aps primary school, so gen 2 basic would be fine. Thanks
