jthompson Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 The WHO has been looking at this for years. From https://www.who.int/en/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/electromagnetic-fields-and-public-health-mobile-phones regarding health affects of electromagnetic fields and mobile phones: A large number of studies have been performed over the last two decades to assess whether mobile phones pose a potential health risk. To date, no adverse health effects have been established as being caused by mobile phone use. From https://www.who.int/peh-emf/publications/facts/fs296/en/ regarding people suffering from electromagnetic hypersensitivity: Treatment of affected individuals should focus on the health symptoms and the clinical picture, and not on the person's perceived need for reducing or eliminating EMF in the workplace or home. Whilst these aren't relating specifically to 5G compared to earlier networks, the WHO seems like as good a source as any on the wider issue.
Arthur Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 Kurzgesagt's video from a couple of days ago also covered this topic. Electricity is all around us, all the time. It makes our lives easier, safer, more fun and most of us never think about it. But is there such a thing as too much electricity? Electronic devices emit an electromagnetic field, which is suspected to cause cancer. We read countless sources on this topic to summarize the results of the latest research for you. Arthur Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Police will 'struggle' to track criminals via 5G European police forces may not be able to track criminals effectively over 5G mobile networks, Europol has warned. The pan-European agency's director said it currently lacked tools that on 4G networks gave police the ability to eavesdrop on criminals. Police forces joined discussions about 5G too late to ensure tracking abilities were preserved, it added. Mobile industry body the GSMA said the comments were "surprising" as criminals could still be lawfully tracked via 5G. Acute need Speaking to Reuters, Europol director Catherine De Bolle said the ability to carry out surveillance via current 4G networks was "one of the most important investigative tools that police officers and services have". The tools and techniques developed to work with 4G had proved useful to forces investigating criminal gangs but could also help in cases of kidnapping to locate victims, she added. 5G networks made monitoring much more difficult because they scattered data across lots of elements of the mobile system, she said. Discussions were now underway with tech firms and governments on how to close the surveillance gap, said Ms De Bolle. "The area we are working in and the technological evolution we are dealing with - the innovation used by criminals, the web-based criminality - it is huge," she added. The GSMA - which helps to co-ordinate the development of mobile technology - said 5G did not mean criminals would go untracked,
dmj Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Police will 'struggle' to track criminals via 5G Couldn't they could just ask the Chinese Govt. 2
FishCustard Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 These are comms networks first, any tracking ability that they provide is secondary and should not be expected as a matter of course.
localzuk Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Police will 'struggle' to track criminals via 5G Its kinda add, especially as there are end to end encrypted comms apps in play these days, so actual mobile phone use is more limited with criminals that have half a brain cell. Hell, I've used an app in the past that made you add your own certificate, generated off the device, to it for the encryption.
