ade5757 Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Hi I need to replace the Cheque printer. is there a preference as to which laserjet printer to use or are any fine as long as we have the correct drivers?
Edu-IT Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 I think you can use any printer, we certainly did back in the day when we printed cheques. Are you using the A4 sheets?
MatthewL Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Last cheque printer I was involved in was a HP LaserJet M605 about 3 years ago they used a MICR toner which is some form of magnetic ink used for cheques.
jmak Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Our cheques are on A4 sheets. Our last printers (Kyocera) and current (Ricoh) print cheques from FMS into the stationery provided by Barclays. I have done nothing to make this work - it's almost Apple-like [emoji57]
FN-GM Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 You're best of using ink jet printers for cheques. I know one school that had a cheque stolen in the post, someone had managed to lift the laser toner off the paper and re-print it and steal money from the account. Ink soaks into the paper to prevent it. 1
MatthewL Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 @FN-GM the magnetic toner cannot be lifted off the page hence its use.
ade5757 Posted June 19, 2019 Author Posted June 19, 2019 Thanks for all of your replies. very Helpful Ill swap out our brother printer for an inkjet with the magnetic ink
howartp Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 We had to use one on some official cheque-printing list; no idea whose list it was / from where. We stopped printing cheques a few years ago though so don't touch it now.
FishCustard Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 You can get MICR toners for various printers. In a previous school we used an HP 1022 (small, reliable, cheap to run).
