We have a member of staff who has a hotmail plus email account which that have set up in outlook. As it is a 'subscription' account they are able to use pop3 settings to downloads their email: pop3.live.com & smtp.live.com. They say it works fine at home, but at work they can only receive emails, not send emails. The smtp server requires authentication, and the incoming pop3 server has SSL. Anybody got an idea how to configue this to work through embc; fiddled with the outgoing server settings (ie, changing it to smtp.embc.uk.com) but no luck.

Cheers

No SMTP traffic is allowed to go *outbound* from EMBC sites unless it passes through the EMBC Filters. Only specified machines in each site are allowed to do this (ie mail servers).

This is done to stop spam traffic and also to force a level of security on email traffic.

Previously a few hidden relays may have been allowed / used but this has never been in the standard network build and is now regarded as a risk to allow it.

At times it is annoying, but I can see the reasoning behind it.
