I emailed Promethean (I think via the contact form on their website rather than directly via email) at the start of May: [Me] > Licensing for Activeinspire: does the license for Activeinspire Personal Edition cover us installing it on all the classroom workstations > in the school, most of which are attached to non-Promethean interactive hardware, or would we need separate licensing for that? [Their Response] > You are free to use ActivInspire Personal Edition with all of our hardware, as well as on computers that are not attached to to any > extra hardware (say, for example, a laptop teachers want to take home to work on). If you want to connect to a non=Promethean > screen, you will need an ActivInspire Professional license, please check with your reseller for costs and options. I think that means we can stick the free version of ActiveInspire on anything not connected to a non-Promethean board. I think the cost for ActiveInspire for non-promethean boards was about £500 (price includes VAT) when we checked with a reseller.

fiza Posted February 7, 2022 Posted February 7, 2022 sorry to resurrect this old thread but did anyone get a definitive answer? We are about to remove the last of our Promethean boards and replace them with BenQ and Viewsonic touchscreens but the teaching staff want to continue using ActiveInspire.

We moved to openboard a long time ago.

We moved to openboard a long time ago. I think that's perhaps what we were told as well. I gather that an alternative is purchasing a licence for non-Promethean boards at £500. They've also quoted the same for purchasing a cheaper Promethean panel (the one that's minus an Android box that absolutely nobody in my school uses). You want one of those, you need to pony up the £500. Which is - frankly - ripping the yellow water a bit.. But it's still cheaper than going for a Promethean panel. I've passed Openboard to the Education folks to look at. It's going to be met with extreme resistance, though - we've been using AS2/AI since the first ActivStudio generation. So that's over 20 years of teaching resources that'll need converted - plus everyone having to learn how to use the new product. What larks!
ICT_GUY Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 The 65" promethean panels are now £1700. Not a great price but cheaper than they were. £500 per seat, for software thats as buggy as windows vista.
DaveTheTech Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 Im fairly certain that you get two licences per board. One to deliver the lesson and one to prepare it. It looks terrible and is not DPI aware.
