dibekem Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Good morning. I have a dell latitude 3470 laptop with Win 7 Pro installed and joined to a domain. When I try to login I get the there are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.Usually I just remove the device from the domain and rejoin but that does not work.If I use a network cable the user can login fine. The problem only occurs if I try to login on the wifi.I have already updated the wifi driver, also manually typed in the dns server in the network settings, deleted the device from AD and rejoined, renamed the laptop but none these made any difference.Any ideas?Thank you
djm968 Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Faulty wireless network card? Log on using a network cable, disconnect and try accessing network shares, internet etc just using wireless.
Rob_D Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 I'm sure you've already tried this, but... The laptop is connected to the wireless okay? Can you ping the laptop from the DC? If you log in locally, can you ping the DC (or anything else) from the laptop?
dibekem Posted May 23, 2019 Author Posted May 23, 2019 Hi. Thank you for the replies. I can login locally and the wireless is fine. I can ping the server from the laptop and the laptop from the server too. I logged into the domain by using the network cable, after I unplugged the network cable and I could access shared drives and the internet via the wireless. After this I logged out and back again to the same user . It lets me in but the user have been logged in with a temp account message pops up. Network drives are have red crosses but when I click on them I can access the files on the shares. I can also use the internet.
fredbayker Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Tried resetting the network stack? It maybe quicker to rebuild if you can’t find a solution.
dibekem Posted June 14, 2019 Author Posted June 14, 2019 Thanks, I have reset the network stack but it made no difference.
PyROm Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 Is the laptop connected to the wifi at the login screen (ie. the wifi credentials are set for all users, not just a single user)?
AJB123 Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 Hi, is the Wi-Fi card picking up the correct IP address and details, has the card been given a static IP that incorrect?
fredbayker Posted June 15, 2019 Posted June 15, 2019 (edited) I would check DCHP just in case your WiFi MAC address is being denied a lease although if this was the issue then you wouldn’t be able to access anything as soon as you pulled out the Ethernet lead and it tried to connect to WiFi(?) [emoji848] Or have you run out of leases maybe? Are you using Radius authentication? Edited June 15, 2019 by fredbayker
strawberry Posted June 15, 2019 Posted June 15, 2019 can you ping the laptop when it's on the logon screen?
mavhc Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 It's always dns. Check dns settings. Try using full.domain.name not just the single old version, domainname.local etc?
Ditto Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 (edited) I had exactly this issue at my last school with a Dell - I think the same model. For us, after connecting with wired, the wireless then behaved. I'm sure I updated drivers, but I don't think it made much difference. What we did see is the model of the WiFi device did vary even for the same model over a relatively short period. If you do finally work out exactly the problem and solution, do let us know as it intrigues me. Edited June 16, 2019 by Ditto
dibekem Posted June 19, 2019 Author Posted June 19, 2019 Thanks Ditto, we have other dell laptop models that behaves fine. There was an intel wireless program that was controlling the wifi which I turned off but made no difference! It seems that the wireless only starts working after the user have logged in. That is the issue! Anyway I yet to find a solution! Thanks
dibekem Posted June 19, 2019 Author Posted June 19, 2019 Just saw the other replies! oops, thanks, will check the suggested solutions the next time I'm in that school.
Chockster Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 (edited) If intel proset is installed (and managing the wifi) it doesn't allow wifi access until after the user is logged on. You can either uninstall the proset management section (be careful not to install the driver at the same time!), or look for the "allow windows to manage my WIFI" option on the tray icon. We had the same issue on some Dell All-in-One machines. Edited June 19, 2019 by Chockster
dibekem Posted June 24, 2019 Author Posted June 24, 2019 Morning everyone.I have tried all of the suggestions: Can I ping the laptop when is on the logon screen? No I cannot. The dns is schoolname.local what do you mean by the full domain? There was another wireless card update that was just released recently. Unfortunately, it made no difference.I have also tried the switch to let windows control the wireless but that made no difference either.I checked the DHCP and we have enough leases, and the laptop is listed with its correct IP address. This summer we are moving to Window 10 edu so I might just try to wipe and put that on it and see what happens! Thanks anyway!
strawberry Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 If you can't ping the laptop then obvs it hasn't yet connected to the network. Not sure what the solution is but that there is the problem!.
mavhc Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 So it got an IP from DHCP, but you can't ping the name? Or the IP?
Passat1983ICTech Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 hi there i have the same problem with not login to a domain you know what i did and it was the last thing i would say replaced the hard drive with a ssd drive don't ask me but i think the drive failing its been 2 years now not missed a beat think out side the box
