Free or affordable alternatives to teamviewer

Any recommendations? The monthly cost of some of these can’t be justified for doing the odd bit from home occasionally.

Windows Admin Centre - Simple to setup and requires a quick NAT rule for external access but does RDP and a whole host more

We use ConnectWise Control (used to be Screen Connect) across our internal and external devices, including phones. Gives us visibility and remote support for all those little niggles. It also allows us to do at will remoting for example if a parent is having an issue with something that we support or a teacher is adamant that our Remote Desktop is not working.

 

Only issue we currently have is that they don't have a list of potential IP addresses and they seem to balance our instance across a range of servers so we have had our IP change which then falls foul of our Firewall.

We've had fun and games these last few weeks with the IP's changing too.

 

Other than this slight niggle, we love the product and have it setup in our 7 schools and like you offer to support parents, students or staff at home where applicable.

RealVNC - they do a home-user version that's free for, if I remember correctly, 3 devices.

I'm going to try with VNC first as it's more of a ready made solution but will deffo keep this thread as a reference.

Try Ultraviewer. I was in the same boat with TV. The only draw back to UltraViewer is there is no Mobile App.

Yes, but attackers target the one that every Windows system includes, which is why there's an issue with RDP every week or so.

Well yeah, don't put Windows 2008 online, that's crazy.

 

All the rest are other RDP clients, or authenticated attacks, or other things called RDP
