kennysarmy Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 One of our MFL teachers alerted me that this site was not rendering correctly, looking like it was showing for a mobile device rather than a windows PC (any browser) I initially thought (as it was fine on my PC) that it was a user policy, but I've since tested and can't see any rhyme nor reason why it chooses to render wrong. Does anyone else get the site displaying for mobiles? https://quizlet.com/gb/399215633/module-3-year-9-mon-identite-1-mon-caractere-flash-cards/ Examples attached.
Arthur Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 (edited) Looks normal to me. What did the site look like before? Edited May 10, 2019 by Arthur
kennysarmy Posted May 10, 2019 Author Posted May 10, 2019 Looks normal to me. What did the site look like before? ^ The adverts in my screenshot are blocked by uBlock Origin. Not sure if that would make a difference? The screenshots you posted also look similar to what's shown on the MacBook Pro on Quizlet's homepage. The screenshots show it rendered on adjacent PC's - one looks right - the other looks like it's for mobile devices (which has less functionality apparently)
ollyyllo Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 For Edge, Chrome and IE mine looks like your example on the left For Firefox it looks like your example on the right
Rob_D Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Comes up with the PC style in chrome and the mobile style in IE and Edge for me.
kennysarmy Posted May 10, 2019 Author Posted May 10, 2019 What's going on? PC's rendering as mobile sites? Bug at their end?
Arthur Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Different versions of flash perhaps? Quizlet doesn't appear to use Flash. The site looks the same if you block Flash in Chrome.

Koldov Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 All look reasonably similar here... Firefox IE 11 Chrome LGfL filtering.
LeMarchand Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 FF, IE, Edge, Chrome - all look like @Koldov's pics here.
kennysarmy Posted May 10, 2019 Author Posted May 10, 2019 All look reasonably similar here... Firefox IE 11 Chrome LGfL filtering. similar - but all rendered for mobile devices rather than the standard PC layout you'd expect?
Koldov Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 (edited) similar - but all rendered for mobile devices rather than the standard PC layout you'd expect? No, all look like I'd expect for a PC. Just like Arthur's screenshot (albeit a little more squished due to his obviously higher screen res - and a strip down the side for adverts). EDIT: Although now I look at your screenshots.... I am looking at it as you've labelled that one 'mobile'.... EDIT 2: Where do you see a difference in functionality? Edited May 10, 2019 by Koldov
Koldov Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Maybe they are in the middle of changing to a new format?
ollyyllo Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 (edited) Both designs respond correctly when set as a mobile view in the dev tools for firefox and chrome. I would guess neither is a mobile version, rather the site has a responsive design. So maybe they are transitioning to a different look or doing some sort of AB testing? This might be the older look as this link is broken, for me anyway, and isn't even on the other version. Edited May 10, 2019 by ollyyllo
Arthur Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 I would guess neither is a mobile version, rather the site has a responsive design. That's what I was thinking too.
kennysarmy Posted May 14, 2019 Author Posted May 14, 2019 Response from Quizlet Hello, Thanks for getting back to me and providing the screenshots. We have identified this problem as a bug that’s currently affecting the Quizlet website. Our engineers are working to address this issue. I don’t yet have an exact timeline on when this will be resolved, but we hope to have this fixed soon. In the meantime, you should be able to play as normal by ensuring that your browser window is fully maximized. If that doesn’t work, please let me know what resolution you have your display set to, and I’ll take a closer look. Apologies for the inconvenience!
