[voip] New Phone System NEC vs Mitel vs Evonex

Hi,

 

We are looking to replace our phone system. The choice is down to 2 on-premise and 1 hosted solution. Do any of you have any thoughts on:

 

NEC SV9100 with DT830 and DT820 handsets

Mitel MiVoice Office 250 with 6940, 6930 and 6920 handsets

Evonex hosted system with Cisco 6851 and 8841 handsets

 

Any reviews would be gratefully received - along with ideas of how they are in an education environment.

We have the SV9100, it does the job with some annoying quirks (service codes not being consistent with instructions, night mode is flakey, management system is not easy to use). Stable, pretty flexible, and the proper handsets are nice (we cheaped out and bought budget analogues which are rubbish, but there we go!)

Are we committed to those choices completely?

 

We looked at NEC (can't remember the specific one) and really liked it but couldn't justify the cost or understand fully the licensing. So we went with an alternative that we are massively happy with.

We're doing the same. My favourite feature of some NEC phones were that they have gig pass through ports but run at 100Mbps unless you have the right licence. wtf!. Sums it up really. Our sv8100 is end of life now so can't add any new extensions as you can't add new licences. Also the backend is awful.

 

We had demos of NEC, wildix and 3cx. Undecided as yet but my favourite and cheapest was 3cx

3cx is just brilliant. We've had it for 9 years now and apart from an issue a year or two, which support was really helpful with, its been faultless. Easy to use and so cheap compared to the alternatives.

 

Would definitely recommend - in fact we've acted as a testimonial for a number of schools when requested by our supplier.

FreePBX (£0), Grandstream 1630 (£40), Gamma (£4.94/channel with 5000 minutes free per month to 01/02/03 and 2000 to mobiles)

 

Total cost: almost free.

I seriously considered freepbx before we got matted. 3cx is a good middle road I think. Not too pricey but you can see where your money has gone ie it works out the box with little to no regionalisation needed. I have too many systems to look after already to be building a bespoke pbx

Got Mitel 250 on site here with 100 phones. It works very reliably but it, wasnt overly cheap, the database programming tool is archaic.

Another vote for 3cx. So easy to manage and add phones to.

Another vote for 3CX too and Yealink phones

3CX - I have used many other systems almost quadruple the cost and they don’t even come near. Nobody has ever given a decent answer to why not 3CX
