Riso Printers

We are looking to replace our printers and are considering going with Rico printers as they have told us that they will charge 1p for color and 0.0005p for black and white copies but wanted to see how other people have found their service and the printers overall as have never heard of this company before.

They are good printers and service and support is good.

 

They seem to always have issues with drivers with latest OS though, for example server 2019 you would have issues.

I wasn't too impressed with their demo when they came to show me their printers. They supply what looks like inkjet MFPs as opposed to laser jet MFPs and I found that the final prints looks a lot more washed out than laser jet printers. I haven't got any further experience with them other than that though.

Not as good quality as a laser, but much faster. We've got three that the teachers use for the majority of printing, had them for a few years. I think we've only had a couple of engineer call outs in that time, much better than the Ricoh ones they replaced!

Riso or Ricoh?

 

Are the Risos the ones that create a "stencil" that is used to print from? If so, one of my sites had them and while it was possible to make good savings, these were lost as staff never cottoned on how to user them properly. (Only economical if you were printing above a certain number of copies).

 

Another site has Ricohs and have very few problems.

The Riso ones we have are basically giant inkjet printers, much more economical (in both page costs and electricity) at the cost of print quality.

 

We had Ricoh laser copiers before that, and some were fine but others had an engineer out every couple of weeks.

We are coming to the end of a contract and are not renewing. This could be down to it being a refurb unit rather than brand new but we were assured it would be fine and supported.

 

Drivers are now no longer available so will not install in W10. The control unit to make it follow you is archaic so never seems to work properly. We have had barely any contact from them so for us after care has been limited. Support always seemed to be ok but never fantastic, a lot of the time they seemed to be learning on the job.

 

Our contract had black being no cheaper, if a bit more expensive, then the normal copies. So only colour would be worth it but it is a known flaw in the tech that the prints are not high quality.

 

Overall I'd have to have a very good reason and fantastic demo to go back to them.

We have had 5 Riso printers since January when we refreshed our follow-me printing setup.

They are ComColour FW5230 machines.

We looked at a lot of alternatives, but have found these very good - they are fast and cheap and the staff find them easy enough to use.

Win10 and Server 2019 running Papercut 18.3 here and no issues.

As others have said, the quality is not the best: if you need high quality stuff with deep colours, you couldn't really use these, but for day to day stuff thats being used in class they are fine.

We have Riso 5000's and 5230 printeers and theyve been good.

Service and any issues have been next day. Not had any problems.
