Need to look at Lockdown Alarm Systems

Been asked to look at options for a proper lockdown alarm system. Our fire alarm is not suitable as it doesn't have the capability to generate different tones.

Have had a survey and quote from Bodet but Governors need the obligatory 3 quotes.

 

Any recommendations on systems please?

We looked at Bodet but decided it was easier to expand our phone system into classrooms and use announcements, it serves multiple purposes and is always in use vs a dedicated system that would only(hopefully) be put to the test when doing drills/tests

I'm shocked that with the current school budget situation that schools are actually considering spending money on a dedicated system for this. Yes, it is high-profile and emotive issue, but the surely likelihood of such a system being put to use in a real situation is, thankfully, small?

 

We have got around it by devising a procedure which makes use of the instant messaging software we already have and use across the site, and the internal telephones.

 

(And we are a school that has had a previous lockdown incident and it was handled perfectly at the time with no system or procedure - ours happened long before the concept of 'lockdown' became trendy!)

We are looking at options. One of the options will be to utilise existing systems such as telephones and software.

We are looking at using the screen lock feature in AB tutor to send messages to desktops rather than broadcast it via an alarm system/speakers.

 

Our IP phones can also broadcast messages.

 

As a school that has had 2 high profile bomb incidents next to it we have been advised (rightly or wrongly) to do silent alerts and then implement our Run, Hide, Tell policy or stay put procedure depending on the actual incident.

They're quick and easy to deploy, you can monitor them using a PC app, they have various alerts, IP66 weather rated. The battery lasts up to 3 years.

Yes, Netgenium is another solution we can discuss in the lockdown space. It is a more similar installation model to Bodet.
