dapaulio Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 FYI Was talking to our papercut provider about upgrading to 19 and they informed me to upgrade direct to 19.0.2 as they found 19.0 had lots and lots of issues
MartinT Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 ^ Are you using authentication on the connector PaperCut talks to on Exchange or is it a "if it comes from $papercut_server, allow the email"? The Receive Connector allows all messages sent from the server running PaperCut.
rogerdnixon Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 We have seen the same and Papercut advised us to rollback to 18.3 as this is a known issue. So basically don't use 19.0.2 if you have not updated yet. Since upgrading PC-App.exe hogs CPU usage up on our server, starts around 30% then overtime reaches 100% which eventually causes the server to have a heart attack. Weirdly it looks like it's trying to send broadcasts en mass as it also pumping out around 30mb/sec doing so on the network cards. I've got it logged with Papercut but will likely revert our VM to the 18.3 install if I don't hear further from them before we go back (unlikely due the holidays) 1
DrCheese Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 Yup, have rolled back to 18.3 this morning. It's a client issue apparently so we're still getting high usage until people logoff at the end of the day (As their PCs will have 19.0.02 loaded)
pete Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 The Receive Connector allows all messages sent from the server running PaperCut. Yeah, this was me forgetting the default for new scan-to-email actions is "spoof the user" when it needs to be "send as the account you're supposed to use".
FN-GM Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 If you enable debugging it will stop your CPU from hitting 100%
mrbios Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 If you enable debugging it will stop your CPU from hitting 100% Interesting, just came here to mention having the same problem. Enabled debugging and now it sits at 60-65% instead.
mullet_man Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 We're on 19.0.2 and not seeing the high CPU issue? Been watching for a few mins now and doesn't seem to go above 20%? What version of server are you guys on? We're on 2016.
Arthur Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 (edited) We're on 19.0.2 and not seeing the high CPU issue? Same here. Our PaperCut VM has 2 vCPUs, 4GB RAM and is running Windows Server 2016 (+ latest CU). In the time I have been watching it, the total CPU usage has never gone above 15%. pc-app.exe is ~5%. MYK-IT Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 2012 R2 VM - 4GB RAM PaperCut M 19.0.2 Debug Mode: On pc-app.exe ~ 67% CPU We have had a major issue since upgrading, whereby print jobs weren't available at the (follow-me) MFD when user logged in. Just been resolved within the past hour, after our Print Management Supplier and PaperCut Support spent all yesterday (remotely) monitoring our Print Server. Issue was related to the new feature, whereby user could choose / change 'shared account' at the device, rather than relying on the Client App - Conflicting with Print Scripts
DalekSec Posted April 24, 2019 Author Posted April 24, 2019 Since the update we can't seem to print PDFs for Edge or Chrome anymore. We normally direct people to Adobe Reader anyway for PDFs but for quick download and print PDFs it's not working. Anyone else with this problem?
mrbios Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 Identical setup to @MYK-IT above here. Possibly a 2012R2 issue?
MYK-IT Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 (edited) Identical setup to @MYK-IT above here. Possibly a 2012R2 issue? May well possibly an issue with 2012 R2. Will be interesting to see if other Edugeek'ers (using 2012 R2) are experiencing high CPU utilisation too? I had already scheduled to upgrade our Print Server to Server 2019 next month anyway (e.g. build new VM) as all our printers / MFDs are getting renewed by our Print Management Provider then. I'll also have the benefit of having their support engineers on-site too, in case other PaperCut 19.x 'features' appear! Edited April 24, 2019 by MYK-IT
FN-GM Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 Papercut have provided me an installer that fixes the issue. Might be worth messaging them? [email protected] 2

I haven't seen this as yet, but like you we direct people to use Adobe. We had it on older versions of Win 10 but newer ones seem to be a bit better. We've been caught out by people printing and not having the app running, as it now sends to the copier but you need to choose the correct account. I haven't sent out the updated app to our staff as yet as had some issues in the past with upgrading but once I've tested I'll deploy it.
mrbios Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 Papercut have provided me an installer that fixes the issue. Might be worth messaging them? [email protected] Just installed their hotfix, cpu usage now bumping about between 5-18% again. Much better, will keep an eye on it over the rest of the day though and see how it goes.
FN-GM Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 Good stuff. I won't be installing it here until out of hours so won't know until tomorrow.

DalekSec Posted April 24, 2019 Author Posted April 24, 2019 Just checked ours (2012 R2) and yupp... 80% load! TO THE HOTFIX!!!
ukwebb2 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 (edited) I've just had the below back from PaperCut https://www.papercut.com/kb/Main/KnownIssues/ PC-15736 A hotfix is available as of this morning for this issue, here are the download links for this: - NOTE PAPERCUT MF ONLY - NOT PAPERCUT NG https://storage.googleapis.com/papercut-promoted-builds/hotfix/papercut-mf/19/19.0.2-PC-15736.49316/setup/pcmf-setup-19.0.2-PC-15736.49316-linux-x64.sh https://storage.googleapis.com/papercut-promoted-builds/hotfix/papercut-mf/19/19.0.2-PC-15736.49316/setup/pcmf-setup-19.0.2-PC-15736.49316-mac.dmg https://storage.googleapis.com/papercut-promoted-builds/hotfix/papercut-mf/19/19.0.2-PC-15736.49316/setup/pcmf-setup-19.0.2-PC-15736.49316.exe Edited April 24, 2019 by ukwebb2
MYK-IT Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 (edited) Just installed their hotfix, cpu usage now bumping about between 5-18% again. Much better, will keep an eye on it over the rest of the day though and see how it goes. I've just obtained the associated hotfix too, will schedule to install asap. PC-15736: The App Server can experience higher than usual CPU usage in scenarios where there are a large number of users running the PaperCut User Client software, and the balance window is hidden in some way. This could be through setting the config key client.config.show-balance to ‘N’ (on the server side) or using the config properties hide-balance=Y config option, or using the —hide-balance command line option when starting the client. We are currently working on a hot-fix for this issue, and hope to have this available shortly. We’re also hoping to have this issue resolved in the public build in the next available release. Update: The hot fix for this issue is now available - please contact us - and mention PC-15736 - for more information. The hot fix resolves the problem at a server-level and at the client level. Ideally after installing the hot-fix, all the clients would be restarted and updated, however the server component of this fix means that even if there are old clients connecting, this will no longer be an issue. mthomas08 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 We are on 2012 R2 here - 50-70% CPU. Will install the hotfix later and fingers crossed.
ukwebb2 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 just note the one i posted is for the MF release only not the NG
MartinT Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 PaperCut 19.0.2 running in VM Server 2012 R2 CPU usage for pc-app running at around 1% The only thing we're seeing is difficulty printing PDFs from a browser. Is there a specific fix for this yet?
