Cannot add users from our GSuite for Education domain to our branded Youtube channels

Trying to sign up.

Created a new consumer gmail account

went to the ccloud identity website and tried to register

Accepted my username but when it got to domain I typed in the school domain name but I got "This domain name is being used by another Google service. If you own this domain and would like to use it for Cloud Identity, please follow the steps here"

 

Not sure how to progress. Don't want to break anything else.

I think this is where you're going wrong.

 

As per the instructions, you need to create a domain alias in your existing G Suite education domain (like brand.your-school.co.uk or yt.your-school.co.uk) and then create an email address at this sub-domain which you enter for Step 5.

 

G Suite Admin Console > Domains > Add/remove domains > Add a domain or domain alias

Ok thanks, so domain alias created in G Suite. How do I create a user in the domain alias please? I am looking at GCDS but I cannot figure out where I would add this user under the domain alias.

Create a new user through G Suite and you'll be able to select the domain alias you created from the drop-down box to the right of the @ in the primary email field.

 

Depending upon how you have GCDS setup you may or may not have to exclude this user to prevent it being suspended or deleted.

Tried to do this today but just hit multiple brick walls... no idea. If anybody has success feel free to let us all know

I have run into the same problem. I am unable to create brand channels or add any accounts in district to be able to manage them. I looked at all of the different settings in admin console and nothing seems to fit the problem. I can add an external email to manage the account. I also tried on my personal google apps domain and I am able to create a channel and add another user as a manager (from inside of that domain). Trying to add a domain user to a channel created on my personal gmail account also fails.

 

So it has to be something within the apps domain somewhere. My guess is it's broken from the phasing out of Google+.

 

Have you had any luck since posting this?

So getting back to this now. I created the domain alias (subdomain ie test.maindomain.org.uk) . According to the support article you don't need to do anything else. https://support.google.com/a/answer/7502379?hl=en

 

 

Any emails sent to your users using the new subdomain will automatically get delivered to their main mailbox.

 

Doesnt work!!

I don't think so. Does it make a difference if you make the alias the primary address?

Anybody got any further with this? I'm hoping that by the July 2020 deadline that the above form gives there may be a better solution. Could they have not just put some control into the google admin console that allows or disallows brand creation/membership.... Still don't get it.

Just found this, as we're wanting a Youtube Channel and the last couple I had to put I used my GSuite account so has my name on the videos rather than the schools.

I right in thinking now then I can't create a School Youtube brand channel at all? I keep getting an error "Invalid Request" when trying to add a channel.

 

What is the alternative, just create a separate school account for a Youtube video? Or am I missing something obvious here!

 

Tried to speak to G-Suite support... and they said try the Fax number Maybe 20 years ago that may have been useful. Sigh

yes create a separate user on the name of your school. we have branded school YouTube channel and have used to teach all through lock down.

We also created a separate account just for our school YouTube channel, and staff log in with that account when they want to upload content

Is there another way to do this? It would be great if the staff could individually post to the school YouTube channel without having to login/out again (I can see all sorts of confusing arising there!) ... or is creating a new user with "School Name" the only way to go?

It appears that brand accounts are allowed with Google Workspace for Education. admin console > Apps > Additional Google services.

 

Can only be used by people 18+

In the email it said X number of users would be impacted by this. Any idea if there is a way to know who the X number are? Is there a way to pull a report on who has a brand account created?
