artfulmatt Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 Hi All, I've been asked to investigate the following finance systems to be used within a Multi Academy Trust. Does anyone have experience with them? Are they stable platforms, are the clients simple to use, updates etc.... Thanks, Matt.

ThomL Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 PS Financials marketed as a cloud application when it's not. The PS Financials App is just installed on remote desktops which might be cloud hosted - user need to RDP into remote windows PC, this is not a cloud application!
FishCustard Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 I can't speak to PS Financials from a user's standpoint, but it seems a very fragile application from an ops standpoint. Lots of remoting in to apply custom patches and long involved setup sessions. It's not an "install and go" app, even to the level that SIMS & FMS is.

howartp Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 We use Sage for Payroll, not for Finance. No problems with it, seems nice and 'just works'. Civica/Corero for finance. Again no problems with it, makes sense, web UI for staff to raise orders, desktop UI for finance.

We self host and there's a client exe (actually about 6 MSIs to install the main client on a PC) for finance staff to use. Then there's 'the portal' a sharepoint like monstrosity that I direct most of my PSF-related fury onto. This is what staff generally have to use for things like raising purchase order and marking them as okay to pay. It is real bad. Super bad. Meldrew.

RLR Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 We use Sage 200c (education version of sage) for finance (not payroll). Moved over to it this year. Cloud based but requires software installed locally on the machine. It's been okay, can be slow at times and support hasn't been too helpful with setting up SMTP email for gmail - this should be straight forward as we use gmail smtp settings for quite a few things but it just seems a bit off with sage as we get random error message even though test emails go through. Sometimes we're not sure if they have gone or not and suppliers end up getting quite a few emails. They seem to heavily rely on people using Outlook.

There's two places to set whether you're using Outlook/MAPI/Other (eg Gmail). Something like File > Properties/Preferences plus also Report Designer > Tools > Email Setup?
