[sims] Schedule and Export a Report To Sharepoint OneDrive

Does anyone know whether it is possible, using Command reporter or otherwise, to export a report and upload to Sharepoint or OneDrive or does it have to be stored on a local machine? I have little experience with this so any help/advice would be appreciated.

If you’ve got the OneDrive for Business App then you should be able to set it up to sync the folder your putting the report into. What are you hoping to achieve?

@Sibrows we do have OneDrive for Business and the App. I work for a MAT and we want to export exclusions data from all of our schools on a weekly basis and upload to a central folder.

Not mentioning any names but there are some good products in the market for syncing data (attendance, assessment and staff data as well as exclusions) from SIMS to a MAT analysis tool. Unless money is seriously tight I would look at that because as soon as you make this work for exclusions your bosses are going to ask for another report and before you know it you'll have a monstrous family of exports to look after on every server.

I have used the Capita commandreporter spreadsheet they have provided through the PowerBI content to create a batch file with a collection of reports on, it isn't too bad to set up and once it's done you can set a scheduled task and it will run itself.

No it's free on MyAccount. You create the reports in SIMS with "prompt at runtime" date filters and then you can set the date parameters in the spreadsheet which generates the text for the batch file.

personally I didn't like the command reporter utility but the links in the Dash script provided an excellent starting point and the links in the Word Doc to the Power BI training were quite useful

Does anyone know if the sync will happen on a server if it is logged off? I have been reading that the onedrive sync utility doesn't work if you are logged off.

OneDrive doesn't run as a service so you need to be logged in for the sync to take place, I've got this on my February term break list but apparantly have a task scheduled to stop and start the application under the user credentials you want to sync with will give a bit of a hack to work around this.

I'm not sure I'd want to put anything live that involves this level of hack. It just isn't supportable, so unless you're paying a child to maintenance it gonna cost alot more to support then getting a proper connector like Assembly*.

 

 

* Based on min wage of under 18 @ £4.35 spending 1 hour a month vs Assembly £5 per month.

Without doubt, but sometimes you have to go as far as you can and let it all fall down before anyone will spend any money.

I'd be careful, the licensing element is a pretty good stopper for POC leaking into production - ie this won't refresh \ be able to be shared till you spend £££. Capita have basically thrown a POC solution which they are "selling" as a production solution. Basically you've got to be careful that it doesn't back fire and the reason it doesn't work is seen my SLT as your fault.

 

There is a reason why PowerBI consultants manually refresh the data on POC
