Joanne Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 so has anyone voted today? I'm afraid my polling card is still at the door. If the fella gets home before 10pm I will vote... if not then I won't. I'm not particularly happy about voting, because the best candidate in our area is labour... only i hate labour! Decisions decisions!! If I don't vote though at least there will be no presssure anymore on the other hand I do feel bad for not voting... on account of everything that happened to get the vote for women and all.... Am I thinking too much about this?!

If you don't like any of the candidates then spoil your paper to make sure they are aware that you have no intention of voting for any candidate. Not voting because you couldn't care less ... that would be something to feel a bit guilty about.

If there were, say 50 spoiled papers, 45 for part 1 and 5 for party 2, tehn party one still wins... There shuld be another box on the paper called Abstain which should be noted in counting the votes.

GrumbleDook Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 You can deliberately spoil your paper so it is obvious that it is a non-vote. When they look at voting figures it gives a better figure when people look at how people voted. At the moment it is 64% of those who voted put an x in the box for candidate Y ... when it should be that 41% of those eligible to vote put an x in the box ... I am always more interested in how many people actually voted in comparison to how many could have. I have spoiled a ballot before, because I did not like any of the local candidates ... but I have also considered voting for a local labour candidate purely based on him, not the party ... at local level you can do that, but it really relies on you trusing the candidate ... I would never consider doing it at national level. Down with Gordon and the spin machine.
blackcat Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 A lot of people went through an awful lot of pain and death to get you the vote - especially the ladies. So vote (it's a bit latish now) even if you spoil (I guess). And if you're too young to have worked under a Tory government in education, then just make sure it doesn't happen. The education budget is always robbed to pay for big boys tax cuts.

The way it works is this - if Labour is in power in central government and you live in say a Tory run council, then labour will punish your council by diverting money away, hospitals and school closures etc. That way the Tory's look bad and you don't vote for them next time :-)

I was reminded of it at 10:00 this morning but completely forget by the end of the day, and only remembered due to this thread - oh well. I have no idea who the candidates were and what they're policies were, but i would have voted blue just to stick it to the reds when looking at the national distribution of votes hopefully we'll see a sea of blue.

m25man Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 I would gladly have voted for somebody of Good standing, Vigor, Commonsense and a degree of public decency today, but the PG Tips Monkey was not standing for London Mayor and he clearly would have been better by far than any of the other candidates! Hopefully, Ken will loose and good riddance, but he will leave a £9Billion Olympic legacy for the London ratepayers to find. Only Monkey can save us now! Help us Monkey please.....
