Millsy79 Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Hi Students in our art department use Photoshop quite often and create large files. The problem is that their storage quota is set to 2Gb and the files they create soon fill up their quota. I would be interested to hear if any of you have similar problems and how you have dealt with it. Thanks
kdunn Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 We ran a compression script to reduce file size. The other thing we noticed is that students were saving files in PSB format, so we blocked these. These files were huge (sometimes 40gb+). One option we considered was applying group policies to the machine to map a new network drive for artwork and photography and push this onto a shared drive and keep the files of the server.
ThomL Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 If you can get away with it - saving without backwards comparability made files much smaller from my experience with Photoshop. Requesting students do this may help?

Could you increase the quota for those certain students to say, 15 GB? They have a genuine need for the space - obviously if you can compress files or teach them how to make them smaller, that's good, but 2 GB seems rather low for creative course students.

We do this all Art/Photography students have a separate area on the network to save their work there.

I agree with this - here creative course students receive a starting point of a 30GB quota with increases possible where needed most of the time.
FN-GM Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 We store it all on Google Drive without any issues.
