6Foot2 Posted April 28, 2019 Author Posted April 28, 2019 Link: 'Avengers: Endgame' Nabs Galactus-Sized $1.2 Billion Opening [Forbes.COM] Avengers: Endgame shattered the bounds of realistic opening weekend predictions this weekend, with a towering $350 million domestic and $1.2 billion in its global debut. Of note, 45% of that came from 3-D showings around the world while $91.5 million came from IMAX (double their previous opening weekend record) and even 4DX earned $15 million globally on the title...
LeMarchand Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Link: 'Avengers: Endgame' Nabs Galactus-Sized $1.2 Billion Opening [Forbes.COM] But it needs $2.1B to break even... say the people who claim that Disney/Marvel have had to buy huge amounts of seats for Captain Marvel to make it seem like the latter is a hit .
MkII Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Our local 10 screen Odeon was showing it 26 times a day! And every showing was pretty much full by Wednesday apart from the odd single seat. We managed to get in at 8pm Saturday sat apart. There were seats at the 11pm showing but starting off home at 2am didn't tempt! Waited behind people queuing at the ticket machines that hadn't pre-booked poking in every time slot to find there was nothing available [emoji20] Takings should be massive. Costs must be massive too with that roster of actors.
LeMarchand Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 (edited) Just got back from seeing Avengers: Endgame with the kids. Wow! Loved it, apart from the first half hour/40 mins which did seem a bit slow and a couple of of things really did annoy me, but didn't detract from the movie as a whole. Anyway, I think we shall give it until Sunday evening before allowing spoilers to be posted in the Endgame thread as there is a lot to discuss I think. As The Lord has spoken, I'm going to venture into slightly spoilerish territory by saying that one of the things that impressed me was how many cast members from previous films they managed to fit into the film - and not just the obvious ones: who expected to see, say, RR again? I'm also wondering if the "she's not alone" bit was to deliberately wind up the Incel Army. Edited May 8, 2019 by LeMarchand Grammar/style
Dos_Box Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 (edited) I think we can safely venture into spoiler territory now so... ***WARNING HERE BE SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT ON!*** Edited May 8, 2019 by Dos_Box

I was just happy to quickly catch a glimpse of Howard the Duck I think they need to get Gunn in to reboot that badboy.
Dos_Box Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Firstly...did anyone else blub? I took my kids and my daughter was very upset at the two deaths. Good job I took some hankies. I don't know what we would have done without them. She...I meant she...It just got dusty in there is all.
DalekSec Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 I didn't blub at the first death.... but the second i did...
LeMarchand Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Despite my signature I do often waste good suffering, however I was more "emotional" than teary. For me, the most emotional part was when I realised why Cap's return was delayed and the subsequent confirmation. OTH when the Ravagers turn up for the funeral at the end of GotG2...
synaesthesia Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 GotG2 is a clear favourite of mine. Well, maybe with Ragnarok. But yes, that moment certainly put onions in the air. Films and TV shows where tragedy can coexist with comedy seamlessly is difficult to pull off and they seem to be quite good at that. The last great example was 1996's OFAH special. Laughing hard from behind tears at Cassie's miscarraige as Delboy knocked a thugs lights out was a weird experience.
NickoTheSicko Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Seen as we can now talk about the film, can we just take a second to think about when Cap summoned Thor's hammer! Thats was just amazing! 2
synaesthesia Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 We all knew it. Thor knew it. There was a knowing hum of approval from the cinemagoers when it happened
witch Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Well I didnt like it. Thor is a GOD. Cap is not. Speaking of which, when did gods get fat? Seemed a bit of a cheap joke to me although I was pleased to see that he went on to do the fighting as a fat boy Loved the film but for a few bits, particularly Caps ending. Made no sense really And how exactly did he return the stones? Hmmmm

I think since Age of Ultron he has proven he can be worthy to wield the hammer. He nearly did in that film anyway so it was inevitable he would eventually. Caps ending made complete sense, he wanted to go back in time and stay with Peggy, he took the stones back to when and where they belonged and used time travel to go back to Peggy and stay there. We saw that Tony and Cap went back in time again when they went back in time originally to 2012 so if they could do it then Cap could do it again. Edited May 9, 2019 by NickoTheSicko

Think where they were - one was a liquid-type thing for goodness sake
LeMarchand Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Loved the film but for a few bits, particularly Caps ending. Made no sense really And how exactly did he return the stones? Hmmmm Where's your sense of romance? Presumably the return of a certain character means that more Pym Particles can be made, so travelling in time is back on the table - returning the stones should be relatively easy. The way MCU time travel seems to work is that you can go back and change things, but that will not affect "your" timeline - only create a new one going forward from the change (so no paradox). So Cap finally got his dance with Peggy.
NickoTheSicko Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 How did he return the stones though? Think where they were - one was a liquid-type thing for goodness sake Honestly it makes no sense how he could of done it but i dont think we need to know how, just accept the fact that he did lol
witch Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Returning to the correct time to put the stones back would be easy, sure, but actually returning them from whence they came? Not so much In going back to Peggy, Cap erases her children from the world - not sure he would actually do that Also, he would be REALLY old in the present day - not around 75 which is how he looked. Dont get me wrong, I loved the film and definitely need to see it again, or maybe all of them

Dont get me wrong, I loved the film and definitely need to see it again, or maybe all of them If The Avengers got 'em, presumably he could "time" his arrival to be just after they were taken by the various members of the team and pop them back. I feel Cap would chose a timeline where Peggy wasn't going to get married to the father of her kids and as for ageing - Super-Soldier Serum.
Zoom7000 Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Returning to the correct time to put the stones back would be easy, sure, but actually returning them from whence they came? Not so much In going back to Peggy, Cap erases her children from the world - not sure he would actually do that Also, he would be REALLY old in the present day - not around 75 which is how he looked. Dont get me wrong, I loved the film and definitely need to see it again, or maybe all of them I loved the film, definitely, but there are a lot of plot holes with regards to time travel. Although the Russo Brothers did say that they thought it all through over the last 3 years. Also, a lot of the film was about setting up the Disney+ streaming service shows. E.g. Falcon & Winter Soldier, Marvel's What If (Cap going back and living out life with Peggy), Loki escaping using the Tessaract etc. As for time travel, they explained in the film that any actions they take by going back in time doesn't affect their future, it creates an alternate reality. So, unlike Back to the Future (loved them shutting down those theory references!) Peggy's children won't have been affected, it would have created a new timeline reality. That still raises the question though, that how did old man Cap come back to the original timeline. Well, he could have done it using more Pym particles, but also, in the recent Spider-Man trailer, they showed how multiverse traversing was possible. So, it seems as though that could be something that Cap did. As for returning the stones, yes, there is a HUGE question here... What did Cap do when he returned to Vormir and saw Red Skull. I really hope we get to see that interaction some day! Also, did he just walk up to Jane and inject her with the aether again? And I though a human can't hold the stones (as we saw in Guardians of the Galaxy)... So, tongs? But in truth, I didn't care for the plot holes. I just super enjoyed the movie and cheered with glee when Cap wielded Mjolnir! On that subject... Captain America could lift Mjolnir before Avengers: Endgame according to the Russos He was always worthy Avengers: Endgame had more than its fair share of crowd-pleasing moments, yet it’s undoubtedly Steve Rogers who steals the show during the movie’s final act thanks to one moment in particular. Yep, we’re out of spoiler territory now, so I can come out and say it: Captain America lifts Mjolnir. It was a huge, iconic shot, but it could have canonically happened well before than according to co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo. Speaking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Russos were asked “Why in your heads was [Captain America] not able to wield the hammer until this moment?” and gave a surprising answer: “In our heads, he was [always] able to wield it.” Wait, wait, wait. What? Yup. According to Anthony Russo, it all ties into the moment in Avengers: Age of Ultron where Cap nearly lifts Mjolnir, and worries the God of Thunder in the process. In fact, he could have done it there and then, as explained: “He didn’t know that until that moment in [Avengers: Age of Ultron] when he tried to pick it up.” So, why didn’t he? Well, to put it bluntly, Steve Rogers is not a show-off (except maybe in the rear area): “Cap’s sense of character and the humility and the sort of deference to Thor’s ego, Cap in that moment realising he can move the hammer decides not to.” When Thor says “I knew it,” for the Russos, that’s all harkening back to the son of Odin knowing in the back of his mind all along that Cap could wield Mjolnir. Basically, Captain America was always worthy – he just didn’t want to let anyone know until he was ready to kick Thanos’ ass. Zoatibix Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 I loved the movie and thought they did a good job of tying up most of it. It wasn't all just put back the way it was. there were losses, sacrifices that had lasting consequences, etc. I did find the 'We got your back girl' bit with Captain Marvel a bit cringy...just seemed unnecessarily forced. Just have the womenfolk beating crap up like the menfolk. I am curious as to how Falcon is able to be the new Captain America? Steve was given the super-serum, so is superhuman. But isn't Falcon just a regular guy in a suit a la Tony Stark?

But isn't Falcon just a regular guy in a suit a la Tony Stark? I think that Steve just thought he was the best person for the job and had the same values as himself. I don't think it was a "power match" decision.
