Just bought the educational site license to Macromedia Studio MX 2004. (Yay, we've spent some ELCs on proper software!)

 

Has anyone succesfully deployed it over their network (without visiting every machine)? The usual places don;t seem to have come up with much, and I don;t have the best track record for creating my own MSIs (already tried it - didn't work - though will investigate further).

I imaged it and it works ok - apart from it requiring a serial number after the trial period has expired!

 

I baratated macromedia and the eventually pointed me to a patch to fix this.

Do you mean as part of the machine's base image (OS etc.)?

At my last place I built an MSI but that didn't work. I then just stuck it in the base image for the OS - I remebered to enter the serial as part of the default user before taking the image.

 

It worked.

I also entered the serial in the default user profile - that worked for Studio MX but not for MX 2004.

Worked for me on MX 2004. I used local Default User profiles though, rather than a single one in the NETLOGON share. Maybe this made a difference?

I think he means the local default profile.

 

I'm not sure that he hasn't made a default domain profie yet (I know I havent yet), but thats for another thread

Personally, I've never seen the problem of using cracks in cases like this. As long as you have procedures in place to limit the installed software to what you're allowed with paper licenses you aren't doing anything wrong (morally. Though it is probably counter to the license)

 

In the rooms where we have StudioMX installed, we just run a batch file via group policy to copy cracked DLLs over at startup. Works perfectly (well, once you've found a crack that isn't a virus, of course)

Big no no. Not only is it a violation of the softwares EULA (granted EULA's have dubious legal clout) but its a violation of the EUCD. Thats a criminal offence...
