Office 365 and separate addresses for Staff and Students

Good morning,

 

We are a small independent school who has recently invested in Office 365. I would like my students to have access to Office 365 but the powers that be do not want the students to have the same email address as the staff. They would like them to be easily identified as a student of the school, rather than sharing the same email address standard.

 

Is this easy to do? In my head we should be able to create a sub domain within office 365 so instead of the [email protected] we could create [email protected]. Is this possible???

we have a different "username" format for staff and students...but use the same domain name. Students always have a "year" identifier at the start of their username and so have usernames in the format 13DaviesA@domain wheras staff would be first.surname@domain

 

But we also include a "disclaimer" - in our case added by exchange - but I'm pretty certain you can do this with Office 365....And you can have different disclaimers for different groups....so its possible to add "This email was written by a student at …. school.... "..... or "This email does not necessarily reflect the reviews of the school..."

Will look at these options. Currently the staff and students logins are similar so may need to alter policy to follow AlanD’s example. Thank you Witch, will investigate this further.

we have an @pupil and @Governors subdomain within our tenant.

 

Pupils and staff see the same global address list, Governors are on a seperate global address list which is blank.

This sounds like what I am looking for. Was it easy to setup?

Very, all we did was add the subdomains into the Office 365 domains section, got the DNS records applied as required and then once that was all done it's available to choose as an email/username.
