2008R2 Domain - Internal Server using SMTP to send emails/ HELP !

So we've recently been using the azure connect to sync AD users and groups with Office 365 and all working fine. I created a new AD domain suffix (schoolname.school) which represents the domain that I'm using for pupil and staff email addresses in AD and they have pulled all the users through to office 365 no problem ie [email protected] - that part all working fine.

 

The problem.

We have a a couple of Internal servers that use the LGFL smtp server to relay messages out of the building (for staff and parents). It will happily relay messages out of the building for ANY email address accept for staff using the new [email protected] address. I think they are being lost in AD somehow but not sure how to trace or fix.

 

Any help appreciated

bit of a temporary bodge but you could set it to send to [email protected] address they still have one as well as their "real" @schooname.school address not an ideal solution but as a fix it should work

I am confused....(easily done...). Are you really saying that your public facing domain email address is [email protected] ? How did you manage to register that?

 

Surely it has to be something like schoolname.sch.uk or schoolname.org.uk... or schoolname.co.uk and must have a registered DNS MX entry.

 

And does your Internal domain name in school have the SAME domain name (which would make for confusion at best....)

I purchased the domain name : )

 

I actually think the problem lies with lgfl we are troubleshooting with them now.

I assume you are not a DFE school then - as the DFE has allocated domain names - which are I think free....if the form schoolname.county.sch.uk

 

 

(I didn't know you get "school" as a TLD. I learn something everyday...well...most days.....whether what I learn is useful is another matter...)

Lots of schools don't use the schoolname.county.sch.uk - ours is stupidly long so we moved to a .academy domain in the summer.

As others have said, the LA domain names can get stupidly long and complex. We have a schoolname.uk.net address as well - didn't know you could get .school TLDs, but I'm skeptical of the usability of the new gTLDs - how many people will absent mindedly shove .uk or .com on the end because "domains have to end like that".
