Norphy Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Can anyone recommend a reasonably decent set of earbuds which don’t have those stupid silicone tips on the end of them? If they have an iOS compatible volume control/mic, all the better. EarPods don’t stay in my ears and I hate the in-ear earphones with the silicon tips on them, I’ve find them very uncomfortable. I don’t want to spend that much, maybe £25-30. TIA.
ZeroHour Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Do you want them to be bluetooth? When you say buds do you mean cans as most of the buds I have seen have silicon tips of various sizes you can change? I bought: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beats-Dr-Dre-BeatsX-Earphones-Black/dp/B01LW9IKX7/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics-accessories&ie=UTF8&qid=1537028114&sr=1-4 when I decided to go wireless and it had a w1 chip which made it a dream to use on iPhone but they are not the cheapest but they charge with lightning which is nice. They do go on sale for a bit less than the current price but its still probably a bit high for you. They are not crazy bass loaded like normal beats either.
Norphy Posted September 15, 2018 Author Posted September 15, 2018 I’ve tried various different in ear buds with silicon tips and tried the different sizes but I don’t get on with any of the ones I’ve tried. I’ve got a reasonably decent set of cans that I’m happy with but I could do with something smaller when I don’t feel like wearing them. Not too bothered them being Bluetooth
DrBeaker Posted September 16, 2018 Posted September 16, 2018 Last decent pair I got a hold of were these ones https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003V9M0VY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but they've gone end-of-life by the looks of it.
christhetech Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 Have you considered bone conducting headphones. They don't go into your ear at all, so definitely don't have those annoying silicone tips on them. Something like these, as an alternative to full on cans https://www.newfrog.com/product/waterproof-bone-conduction-wireless-4.1-bluetooth-headset-stereo-headphone-189537?currency=GBP&msclkid=d468636bbc251d7a7e3038f4d46a46ea&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Shopping_GB_gxr&utm_term=4582695747616480&utm_content=All%20products 1

I'm looking at a new set of in ear phones too, but the ones I'm looking at have the silicone things... so can't help. 1

I'm looking at a new set of in ear phones too, but the ones I'm looking at have the silicone things... so can't help. I tried a set of bone conducting headphones in Costco a few weeks back, not this particular model mind, and they were superb. I think the ones that I tried were Bose, and super expensive, hence the reason why I didn't purchase them there and then, but I'm definitely considering a set. You're right about the description on these ones though. Chinglish at it's finest!
Joanne Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 see I want mine for the gym, so the bone ones would be no good because I'd hear the gym music and grunting bros. I need dat noise cancellation tho.

If so, what is the sound like? I always find earbuds never stay in my ears.

Plus I'm not a huge fan of how tightly they have to grip your head to work and they need fairly precise placement on your cheek bones not to sound like complete garbage. If they got knocked, that all goes to pot. Edited September 17, 2018 by Norphy 2
christhetech Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 Have you tried something like these? If so, what is the sound like? I always find earbuds never stay in my ears. I tried a high-end set out in Costco a few weeks back. I think they were Bose, but I'm not 100% certain. The sound quality was fantastic, but so was the price unfortunately, so I ended up walking away from them. I'm definitely going to get a set though as soon as I have enough spare pennies to invest in them. 1

If they got knocked, that all goes to pot. Thanks for pointing this out. I was ready to invest in some after trying a set for 5-10 minutes in Costco. I hadn't really took the battery life into consideration or how they would perform whilst running etc, as I was standing still in the shop at the time.
Joanne Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 try some more in store and jog on the spot, so something jolty.... see if they move. I think the pressure on my head from them would get to me after a while.
Dos_Box Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 May grab a pair of those for cycling as I need to be able to hear what is going on around me.
fiza Posted October 29, 2018 Posted October 29, 2018 Can anyone recommend any wireless over-the-ear headphones for use in the Gym? Don't like in-the-ear so want some noise cancelling cans that are sweat resistant.

I need dat noise cancellation tho. I have these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0749GJWQK/ for the office and they're fairly bombproof with ~8hrs of use per charge. Downside is they (in my ears at least - YEMV) really cut out external noise to the point where colleagues can unintentionally creep up on your and make you jump. 1
