quaium Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 I've was wondering what everyone did for their SIMS and FMS backups. What's the best thing to do? Right now, I'm taking a database backup via Backup Exec and also manually doing a BAK backup via SIMS and FMS. What's the best method so that SIMS and FMS can be restored as quickly as possible?
sister_annex Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Our SIMS/FMS is virtualised, we use VEEAM to take a backup of the entire server every night, a restore can take as little as half hour depending when it goes down. VEEAM has built-in transaction processing to sort the SQL transaction logs out etc...
quaium Posted September 6, 2018 Author Posted September 6, 2018 Unfortunately our SIMS and FMS are not virtualised.
sister_annex Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Unfortunately our SIMS and FMS are not virtualised. in which case my point is moot, however, I would highly suggesting virtualisation if you can, the benefits are unparalleled
Meldrew Posted September 9, 2018 Posted September 9, 2018 We use SQL Backup Free | Free MS SQL Server backup seems to do the job.
Banjo Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Hi - We use Attix 5 (by Redstor) with the SIMS/FMS plugin. Attix5 SIMS Backup Keyfacts - Attix5 Pro FAQ Its also what Capita recommend https://www.capita-sims.co.uk/products-and-services/redstor-backup-pro
Sonic007 Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 We have an account with Softcat that backup our servers every night.
saggu Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 We have an account with Softcat that backup our servers every night. How does that work? Is it a cloud backup? would you PM me the cost? Thanks in anticipation.
nicholab Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 We are using WAVE9 backup system with nas to cloud using Altaro. This is for Around 12 VM. Amazing space savings we with dedup and compression. The other product that was basic and good was backup assist. 1
3s-gtech Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 We use the built standard SIMS backup to back up the databases, then robocopy to grab the file share and the whole VM is also backed up just in case. All goes onto a remote NAS.
matt40k Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 Best method is the one you've tested and confirmed it works
theeggmaster Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 I have a batch script that Capita provided to me when they moved our SIMS from hosted to in-house. I run this every morning, then the files are automatically copied to our file server, which is then backed up via Backup Exec to a NAS. I also do a Veeam backup of the whole server every night.
