nicholab Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I got this from an end user and I am not sure what to do as the machine has just been reimaged with 1803. There is nothing wrong with my user area, as it is working fine on another computer. However, I regret to say that this replacement in my own room is not fit for purpose at the moment. It is taking between 5 and 60 seconds to open documents or programs after clicking on the icon/link. Any suggestions?
mikeprice Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Slow network?? if so - possibly driver issue or maybe the update has taken up loads of memory/disk space so it is taking ages to load Word (or whatever) 'cos it is paging a lot on which subject - could also be a driver issue on the local disk slowing down loading
nicholab Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 Could also be pulling stuff from Sccm I try it on Monday. It is one of the machine that will be getting a sad and ram upgrade this year.
ricki Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Loads of things create slowness slow pc, not enough ram, slow hard drive, bad drivers, programs running in the background, slow network, slow server, loops. Start by checking the event log and see what the pc is doing Richard
nicholab Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 What’s annoying is that I have 32 of the same machines and I not seen the same issue.
mukz Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 We had the same problem, reimaged the machine and it went back to working normally. To be fair we didnt have time to troubleshoot
difinity Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Check the hard drive first, if it's a Seagate or WD I'd suspect oxidized contacts between the PCB and drive. Bad memory possibly, run memtest to check, both will cause random slowness. If it's not hardware then it's onto diagnosing the OS, drivers and software Are all the drivers installed correctly ? Chipset and Intel rapid Storage being the common ones missed if relying on Windows to find the correct ones. Task manager will show which part of your PC is causing the issue, it's usually either maxed out CPU or hard drive from experience. I've seen a few issues with Windows update being broken also causing slowness.
AlanD Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Are you sure drivers "actually" went on and are working. I'd take a good look at the VGA driver to start with.
aliaspeter Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Look at wmi repository corruption as a possible cause.
Dos_Box Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 What make are the PCs? After a faff with a Lenovo laptop over the past few days it appears some have custom power management drivers and the stock Windows image drivers simply leave them a sluggish horrible mess.
timbo343 Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Are you able to change said user's computer with one of those 32 machines you have. That may give you a better idea if it's the network or the machine.
AJWhite1970 Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Are you able to change said user's computer with one of those 32 machines you have. That may give you a better idea if it's the network or the machine. Or the user.....
