Dumb question - Cat6 Cabling

Hi all

 

So I have cabled in many patch ports and RJ45 connectors in my time but this latest Cat6 port I've purchased from screw fix is a little weird and I just wanted to check see what you guys think?

 

I know that you have to match the two end but I'm not sure how to match this port into a RJ45 connector.

 

Basically the punch connectors have numbers as well as colour coordinates.

 

Would you mind having a look and letting me know how you'd cable it into an RJ45 connector?

 

I'm thinking Stripy orange, orange, stripy green, blue, stripy blue, green, stripy brown, brown. Is this right sorry guys I know its a stupid question!

Yes, that's how I'd do it. T568B standard.

use the B side of them as that's the normal series we use.

its just a fun layout.

You can get CAT6 sockets/modules. I've used both and never really noticed a difference.

 

Use CAT 6 modules and patchbays (and patch leads for that matter) if you've bothered to run 6 in the first place.

 

Your local screwfix will do them.

They can be a tight squeeze for the cable to fit in with the centre spline, strongly suggest a few quid on the right ones for the job.

Cat5e on Cat6 module is fine. I have done it in quite a few places at work because we ran out of cat5e modules. Forgot to replace them and its now 2 years later and still working

Ok so cabled the port in as suggested on the port itself us in the B colour code and followed the standard T568B on the RJ45 connector although I'm getting a crossover appear on the remote tester? Any ideas how to change it round?

Dumb question but are you sure you followed the colouring on the port? Only reason I ask is you said "Stripy orange, orange" etc which isn't the order on those type of ports as the numbers are mixed about. (2->1 etc). Just might be worth checking

 

Also did you check what the other end of the patch is terminated as? We've had some companies using A before just because someone looked at the colours rather than labels etc

I'm failing to see what's weird about that port, but...

 

Make sure both sides are using A or B, and not mixed, I'm sure you followed the clear diagram for the port!

Thanks all! I'll check it tonight. Haven't done much new cabling, normally the port is already cabled and I'm either replacing an existing one or putting an end on so excuse my noobish requests.
