Oh wonderful

It's on Amazon Prime

getting to the point where we have gone from having 2 then 3 then 4 then 5 free channels (in my youth) for the cost of the TV license

and a lot of good stuff was on them

now we have freeview for free (plus license) but the good stuff is only available for a cost

so we end up paying

virgin

BT

sky

netflix

amazon

Uncle Tom Cobbly

and all

and often just to get 1 thing or series

no wonder people try to get stuff via dodgy channels

errrr

apologies for the above rant - it does annoy me

but just looked on Prime and it does allow a rental option for a 'not too bad' price

so not as bad as I thought

so

why would you pay virgin, bt and sky? I think you're doing it wrong

Well no - I don't 'cos I'm a stingy git (OH can supply details)

but I pay Virgin just because their stuff works and my OH watches a lot of the extra stuff over freeview - which means I get BT stuff included (I wouldn't pay for it)

and I don't pay any extra for the sky stuff on it because I would very seldom watch any of it

I don't pay anyone else but I am dreading Channel 4's contract with Formula 1 coming up for renewal

You forgot YouTube (for Cobra Kai)

If in the USA, you might need to add:

Starz

Hulu

HBO

CBS All Access

Showtime

Cinemax

DC

...and whatever Disney are cooking up

Actually I was looking at what else is on Amazon Prime and my OH asked about some films and it was mostly cheaper to buy the DVDs from Amazon rather than hire the video to stream

I suppose it depends if you want it NOW or if you can wait for a couple of days

OH but that looks excellent!

Roll on next year!

For those unwilling to pay for Prime in order to watch it, the BBC will be broadcasting it a couple of months after it is released on Amazon.

whooooo!

I'm covered, OH has prime so I'm included in the family deal. Really hope they do it justice, I'll have to check for the cast to see if I approve ;-)

I don't think they could have chosen any better for the two leads. I'm sooooo excited, may have to have a party and watch with all my Pratchett-loving friends. Edited by EliteCommander

My daughter is an avid reader, but I can't get her onto Pratchett yet, she refuses all attempts.

She is a big David Tennant fan though and she is very much looking forwards to this series. Could be the 'in' I need :)

I think I got my daughter started on them with Wyrd Sisters

I kept offering the Tiffany Aching books. Hopefully this will get her interested, especially when I tell her the books are often far funnier.

***HERE BE SPOILERS***

OK, it's been out a few days now in its entirety and I suspect I'm not the only one here who binged it over the weekend, so, thoughts?

Personally, I loved it, although it's not entirely perfect and there were some glaring omissions to make it fit the 6x1 hour episodes.

Where were the 'Other 4 Horsemen Of The Apocalypse'? Where was Greasy Johnson? There were several omissions that helped pad out the book.

I think it would have helped to have had more of the explanatory cut-scenes like the 'how many angels can dance on the head of a pin' one to help explain certain situations, such as the rough draft of the Mona Lisa in Crowleys office.

The episode that showed the past history between the two was, whilst not in the book, very well done. I particularly liked the way Gainman had written in the blurring between 'good' and 'evil', especially in the Noahs Ark bit.

Saying that though , Sheen and Tennant were perfectly cast as Aziraphale and Crowley and bounced off each other wonderfully, although I never imaged Crowley to be quite so rough when taking to Aziraphale.

And I'm still getting to grips with the way they had them both on trial at the very end (which wasn't in the book). It seemed to sideline the ineffable part totally.

Also, the way the Them dispatched the 4 horsemen was changed from the book, but that mat have been quite hard to get over on the screen.

Still, it was, for me, thoroughly enjoyable and will be watching it again with my daughter soon :)

Oh! And if you liked Crowleys watch (which isn't the super-slim one described in the book) as I did, and thought it CGI, then I was quite shocked when @ZeroHour looked it up and found it was actually a real thing. It's a Devon Tread 1 Time Belt and will set you back a cool £11,500.

Very cool watch, but that video is terrible @ 360p! Here's a better one... :)

The watch itself is also HUGE!
