Well, the cricket has had to be abandoned today due to the rain. The first time an entire day's play has been lost in a test match since 2001.

 

Cricket is the only sport that could achieve such a wet day in the longest, hottest, dryest summer in years

OK - so when I checked before they were forecasting rain and HAIL (!!) for tomorrow

 

Then I checked again a few hours ago and the rain had moved a few hours back and the hail had dissappeared - but there was thunder around lunch time

 

now it is just rain for many hours

 

so basically - something wet is likely to occur at some point for a period of time

reminds me of last weekend when the Grandkids where staying over night so the parents could get ratted - sorry - have a romantic evening at the night club where they met (He was the manager at the time (he has grown up since!!) -now it is closing down)

 

We gave them a bath and he did a weeeeeeee (and not like in the Hotel thingy add) while he was standing up - the look on his face was priceless!!!

Drove a fence post into the parched ground yesterday and the post shattered about 2" depth!! I think it's fair to say that in these parts the rain showers forecast for today and the weekend is long overdue...

Meanwhile over in France there have been devastating storms with the Gard, Ardèche and Drôme departments particularly badly hit. We go to this area a lot - I worked in the Ardèche gorge for 4 months - so know it well.

Yesterday in South East Kent we had rain from about 11am to 6pm. Its forecast to rain again today with a thunderstorm apparently then sunny from tomorrow all week with a high of 22 degrees!

It has tried raining a bit on and off here a few times - but not at the times the Met Office said

 

and no thunder in spite of forecast saying it would at times during the day

 

I'm glad I'm not a weather forecaster at the moment - it seems all over the place

After two hours of pretty sustained, heavy rain and now bright sunshine I will have to wade to my car as the staff car park is waterlogged: Probably deep enough to cover my feet entirely.

It’s been raining here since late morning and got torrential as I popped into the Coop. I had to paddle back to my car and into my house. The shopping is still in the car.

I think the problem here is that the weather is coming from more Westerly than usual

hence it is having to come over the mountains and hills of North Wales - so when it gets to flatter land it is not likely to rain

normally it comes from more Northerly - hence comes over sea and flatter land

 

Hence only a pathetic attempt to rain today

Just enough gaps in the rain at Lords for England to bowl India out for 107 - go Jimmy Anderson! 😄😄😄

(Although perhaps I should wait for England's almost inevitable batting collapse tomorrow before I get too optimistic...?)

The next few years could be "anomalously warm", according to a new study.

 

Researchers have developed a mathematical model to predict how average global surface air temperatures will vary over the next few years.

 

The results suggest that the period from 2018 to 2022 could see an increased likelihood of extreme temperatures.

 

The findings are published in the journal Nature Communications.

 

The warming caused by emissions of greenhouse gases like CO2 is not increasing at a perfectly steady rate...

I first found out about at Uni in 1981 - lectures on atmospheric chemistry

 

The theory was clear but the facts were contradictory at the time - mostly around measuring the actual temperature of the Earth.

It was clear that the atmosphere was warming - based on observations - but the measurements at the time showed the actual temperature was falling - which was confusing people.

 

The lecturer was researching this full time so knew what he was on about. Even now there are problems which allows the deniers something to hold onto when arguing that it is all a hoax
