Dos_Box Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 Our garden is like concrete; any downpour will simply flow off the surface. We need steady rain over days to sort it out. Flowing straight off is good news for NW reservoirs, less so for those at risk of flash flooding and trying to extinguish peat fires. I am not optimistic that the rain will reach us in Kent in any case. We've had a few hours of rain in the past two months here.

Every time I go to watch Preston North End play, My dad jokes that I need a change of clothes as i'll be soaked. Its an expensive trip travelling almost 500 miles for 90 minutes!

mikeprice Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 Just been looking out the grass after the rain today most of it has gone green again (Ok most of my lawn is actually moss and stuff but the grass is OK) after only a couple of serious showers and a day on on/off light rain SO WHY HAVE PEOPLE BEEN USING LAKE FULLS OF WATER TO USE SPRINKLERS!!!! Grass is good at surviving - that is why it is so common all over the world

Still, it keep things watered in the gardens but I doubt it is having much of an effect on resovoir levels. Apparently there are to be high temps in the UK this week and a sun warning - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44924406 For all of you in the SE, you have my sympathy. Perhaps we'll see a bit of a tourism boom in the north as people try and flee the uncomfortable tempritures down there for something a bit more bearable. 1

Andrew_C Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 28, with no clouds at all. We had a 15 min deluge 10 days ago. Mrs C was shopping in town - arrived here looking like a drowned rat. 10mm total in last month and a bit - all in that 1/4 hour.
