How do you write DVD's in windows 10 - No "Movie Maker" Help.

We're upgrading our Teacher Laptops to Windows 10 (Still prefer W7 but can't hold back the tide) just discovered there's no Movie Maker on 10? where's it gone and why? Anyone got an easy (free) alternative? We need to put Photos on DVD for Parents at end of year, they make DVD's which play almost universally and are not editable (GDPR). Microsoft have shot themselves in the foot, (again).

Problem is what is the alternative?

You dont need movie maker to write to dvds.

 

Do you mean that they create a photo film then that is written onto a dvd?

 

I believe in the 'Photo Gallery' you can create photo videos.

movie maker hasnt been part of windows since xp has it? there were downloadable updates for vista /7 but its not been built in for a long while. i THINK you can do it with paint3d (dont ask) as that does all sorts of clever stuff with video editing

We use OpenShot as a replacement. It's a bit buggy but does the job.

The Photos app has an extremely basic video editor.

We deploy Windows Live Movie Maker to Windows 10. Can't remember if that authors DVD video discs, but if not not, we also have DVD Flick installed, which is free.

Movie maker is no longer supported but you can still install it on windows 10 using Windows Live Essentials Offline installer.

Microsoft don't provide a link for it anymore but you can find it elsewhere if you do a quick search.

Old MS Photostory 3 works on 10, and is pretty good at doing the job you want, combined with your DVD authoring of choice.

Thanks. They want to make DVD's. Yes you can compile a "movie" and write to DVD as in an MP4 but that isn't a good old DVD.

Authoring software should be able to create a DVD-Video from your MP4 file though

DVD Flick is a free and reliable authoring tool. Just add whatever mp4s etc. as titles and then set it going. Either direct to DVD media or to an ISO.
