jimmy_2k Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 hi all Were developing Windows 10 1803 Enterprise for users. One of our current issues is, when Edge is opened it freezes and doesn't load anything. You can get to options and I have tried clearing the edge cache and that doesn't have any effect. I have also tried logging on as local administrator and the issue is still present. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks
DJ-1701 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 First idea is Impero… if you use it I find it's a nightmare with Edge in the latest version of Windows 10. Should kick in after a few minutes until you close the window again.
jimmy_2k Posted July 4, 2018 Author Posted July 4, 2018 We've got Impero. I'll close it and see if that sorts it
jimmy_2k Posted July 4, 2018 Author Posted July 4, 2018 Thanks, that's got it to open now. Is there a fix from Impero? I have uninstalled it
DCUK6 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Get the same thing here. Theres some regedit that loads of posts online refer to but it didnt work. Ive just installed Chrome, added a IE link. Have impero but not got the Edge app for it. Ive always though it had something to do with the proxy.

Same here, very annoying, but it only affects my PC at the Secondary at present as I am the only one that has 1803 installed. Ive just installed Chrome. Was wondering if I should concede and use that for now until they fixed the bugs... I am not a huge fan of Chrome though, so it might be Firefox.
Oaktech Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 I just remove edge altogether. It doesn't bring anything to the party. IE11 for things that require ActiveX Chrome with a GPO behind it for everything else.

Though I must admit, Chrome seems to be the way forward for most sites at the moment.

True, but I've not found a site yet that *requires* edge or *requires* firefox. Having IE and Chrome available covers all bases for us.

The finances bank requires IE. Some sites for teaching personnel work better with chrome. Sometimes buttons dont work on a browser. Not found a site which requires edge yet. With the original question, not sure if there is a exclusion that can be added into impero if that is what is causing your issues. Obviously being a browser you would need to check if the history is still logged after adding a exclusion. We dont use the app but we use the window history to check history.
Mic_Impero Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Since build 1803, Impero now crashes Edge browser. Most schools using Impero have Edge browser blocked due to the lack of ability to deploy Edge extensions from MS, so haven't noticed this issue. For those who still with to allow the use of Edge (bear in mind Impero will not monitor it unless you have the Edge extension installed and enabled), you need to exclude a new Impero Injection exclusion in the server application. We've added this by default in version 7, which is released for early adopters today (notification pending). Here are the instructions to resolve the issue pre version 7 of Impero. Open the Impero Server 1. Select the Tools tab and click on Injection Exclusions 2. Under Application enter the following browser_broker.exe 3. Under Description enter the follow Microsoft Edge 4. Click Add Exclusion 5. Repeat point 3, 4 and 5 again adding RuntimeBroker.exe and Microsoft Edge 6. You will need to restart the Impero Client services Please be aware once you have added the above, if you have any block polices already applied for Microsoft Edge as an application block this will no long block. To resolve this issue you will need to change the block from an application block to caption block Open the impero console Select the group, right click and select Advanced Policies. Select the block list under policy name, on the right hand side select ADD In the popup box then enter *Microsoft edge* and select Window Caption then click Add. Mic @ Impero 1
Boredguy Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Well we've added the 2 exclusions when we upgraded to 6.4.43, and it made zero difference on the 1 station we currently have 1803 on. Thankfully it's my technicians workstation ( @DJ-1701 ) and he would have replied but he's spent the last several minutes waiting for Edge to finish launching with Impero running 1
Mic_Impero Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Hi @Boredguy , Sorry to hear that. There's a very definite scenario here where every machine running 1803 breaks until we enter those exclusions, then it works. We've not yet encountered Impero causing a problem once those extensions are in. Please could you disable Impero on your technicians workstation (stop and disable the services) and see if this still happens? If that's the case, it may be there is an issue with pushing those settings to that (or potentially other) workstations, which we'd been keen to take a look at. Impero works in a similar way to some security products in the way that it injects processes; if the problem still happens with Impero disabled, my next port of call would be any antivirus I had installed. Thankfully with it being the technicians PC i guess you could quickly identify that by disabling AV, run time scanning, etc, on that machine and see if the problem is resolved at that stage. Please PM me if we're able to help further more directly. Thanks Mic @ Impero
Boredguy Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Edge is perfectly fine when we disable the impero service on the station (which is a bit of a pain since we use the management functionality on a daily bases to resolve simple user issues) Thankfully it's on when you launch edge when you logon that it sits and doesn't respond, so it's not been the end of the world, but has delayed our deployed 1803 out to our other handful of stations as we do not really want to disable Edge. 1
Mic_Impero Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Thanks for the quick response, that's interesting. We've seen some MS processes using dllhost and have included that in version 7.1 which is due in August. Please could you try adding dllhost.exe and let us know if that has a positive impact? 1
Boredguy Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 @Mic_Impero looks like dllhost.exe works with a quick test, but will verify it tomorrow after it's had a full reboot. 2
Boredguy Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Can confirm that after a reboot edge is as happy to run with that extra exclusion 2
RonJ Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 After a recent support call, Impero support is suggesting adding the following exclusions to allow Edge to work properly, browser_broker.exe and RuntimeBroker.exe
