Poll: Student Photos

Hi folks,

 

A simplistic poll, just to found out if other schools ask for permission(s) to use photos of students.

 

I might ask a more detailed poll depending on what results from this.

 

(I don't think you can view the poll on a mobile browser, but it works in a desktop browser and the Edugeek app)

Voted Yes, but it depends what we want to use them for.

We sent out a detailed form asking what we could use photos for eg/ display within school, use on website and facebook, use for advertising, send to newspapers.

No of course not. How would the school operate if the teachers can't identify the kids.

 

We ask if we can put their images on the internet or in the paper, but not to use their photo. Who is voting yes to this ????

I think most are assuming that this is for other than day-to-day in-school use e.g. SIMS photo. The intent of the "yes" was for use other than that e.g. public display in school, website, Facebook, media etc.

I don't think your survey question quite covers it, or perhaps needs some context. We take photos of every student without consent, for safeguarding and protecting vital interests - we need to be able to identify students, especially those with medical needs, and cover teachers need to match names to faces - but we ask for consent to use photos on our website, in the press, etc.

Yeah, we have a list of consents for photos - use on internal displays, use for publications etc... We don't ask for day to day use - that's just part of us being a school.

We have always collected consent for photos and given the option to opt out for events, social media etc.

 

Under GDPR obviously we have battened down the hatches and made it much easier to opt in/out. Photos are no longer uploaded to the website etc unless parents have OPT IN and obviously no details are given. In all honesty we have just stopped uploading photos.
