we have several promethean power amplifiers in our classrooms connecting the pc to speakers for the IWB. Like most things here, they are starting to fail. Can anyone suggest a replacement that would be easy to swap out. I'm not very confident at wiring but willing to have a go as the budget is limited so having a full replacement installed is out of the question.

thanks

Be careful with cheap soundbars! They are not up to the task, and failure rates tend to be quite high.

If you are going down the soundbar route, I'd probably look at paying a little extra for a Roth unit. We've got these installed around the school at the minute & they are very good indeed. We tried the cheap and nasty consumer units and they were bloody awful!

Very true. Ordinarily I wouldn't entertain the idea since the sound quality is sub-par. However since the majority of teachers can't tell the difference and need something as simple to operate as a light switch they seemed like the obvious choice. Besides as I am okay with diagnosing and repairing electronics we decided it was a risk worth taking.

Promethean amplifiers are just Cambridge audio ones rebranded. We bought a number of the Topaz A1 amps from richer sounds to replace the older ones. However we are ripping out all of our remaining IWB systems over the summer. We will probably have 50+ amplifiers going spare if you are keen. Only issue might be we are in Edinburgh.

Thank you for the offer, but think I'm going to try a sound bar and see how long it takes the teacher to break it :)

Issue with soundbars is the input selection and loosing the remote. The Sahara wall mounted spreakers are more simple and sound better although don't look as "modern".
