Unifi Pricing increased?

Does anyone know why the cost of Unifi AP-AC-EDU has increased so much? I quoted for some new wireless in a new building about 5 months ago and the pricing was £135 per AP. Now it seems they have been increasing pricing, the latest price is £320 per unit and that is a price increase from £265 apparently. The AC-PRO is still at £105 per AP same as it was when I quoted so it seems on the EDU has increased.

 

Really disappointing as I was really impressed with these and was going to deploy across the whole site when our current wireless is due for renewal. I cannot justify it now as I cannot afford to put them everywhere needed for the speakers to be heard. Looks like I will be just going with the AP-AC-PRO instead.

The real retail price was around the £300 mark up until a few months ago. We noticed the price drop and put in a bid at work.

From the various conversations I had with resellers and distributors and reading between the lines I don’t think the edu line has been a big success - at least not in the uk. The distributors had a lot of stock on their shelves for too long so they slashed the price to move them. Now there isn’t a great deal of stock any more, or perhaps the distributors are having to bring them in at a premium so the price has risen again.

We managed to get 25 of them at a reasonable price and they’ve all been fitted and work as they should. Need to get one more ordered now too - so I’m expecting to pay a premium.

Just as an update on this for anyone who might be interested we ordered an additional uap-ac-edu yesterday from the only uk supplier who said they had stock (back up to the £300+ pricing too) and they’ve been in touch to say actually they don’t have stock, and they only order EDU units in when required now.

 

The one we ordered is being shipped from the Czech republic.

It was them who don't actually carry stock any longer and ship from the Czech Republic - I guess they mean 'In Stock with our supplier'. Can't complain really, it only took three working days.

Exactly right.

 

Not just Ubnt products though.

Distributors are cutting back on locally held stock and all Vendors are moving towards central EU warehousing drawing off as needed.

 

The cost of delivery next day from Holland or CZ now is getting cheaper (at least until brexit bites).

Warehouse space costs are increasing daily.

It makes more sense to follow the Tesco/Amazon style model and only stock what can be sold within the week.

When you can get the NanoHDs for £130 odd which are next gen 4x4 MIMO - I don't think it's worth paying well over double to have a built in speaker, and get a 2 gen old gen "worse" access point!

Shame the speaker isn't an accessory/add-on to any AP model.

Would consider otherwise but like @AButters said its an older AP which is annoying.

I'm getting the AP-AC-Pro which is the AP built in to the AP-AC-EDU for £88 per unit in bulk. So the speaker is a considerable additional expense on top given the pricing quoted on here.
