Jawloms Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 (edited) I've not looked at these before and now I have, I am somewhat surprised at the cost! £80+? Am I just looking in the wrong places or are they that much? I can't find a PoE one either. Do they exist? One which does both would be perfect but I suspect that is asking a bit much..... Andrew_C Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I've not looked for these specifics (I assume HDMI?) but Lindy would be my first port of call for lowish cost, but you can pay whatever you want if you go high-end. And do you really mean Ethernet (as in a network protocol) or just CAT5 cable?

And do you really mean Ethernet (as in a network protocol) or just CAT5 cable? I've corrected the title to HDMI, and yes, CAT5. I don't want to go high end, I want to go cheap.
FN-GM Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 This video is quite good. It demonstrates a number of products. The sum of it is if you want to get something reliable use the IP solution. 1
PotNoodleTech Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I've used the decent IP powered ones with no problems at all. I would not even contemplate using an unpowered one. 1
timbo343 Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 We bought these to extend to a projector in the same room rather than buying a loom https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01E4YNKBI/ref=asc_df_B01E4YNKBI52880689/?tag=googshopuk-21&creative=22110&creativeASIN=B01E4YNKBI&linkCode=df0&hvadid=218843350928&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6703422387112425869&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9041128&hvtargid=pla-410514144914&th=1&psc=1 1
SamanthaD Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Going cheap is fine if it's not a critical application. Also consider the cable used - some extenders work better with specific cable, others are not too fussy. As a minimum I would be asking for shielded cable, and also minimise the amount of breaks in the chain if you can! 1
mikkydoos Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Have a look at Startech. I've had a couple of their VGA models in the past from CPC and they're brilliant. 1
howartp Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Our whole theatre is using these: VGA & Audio Over CAT 5 Extender Kit - PRO SIGNAL | CPC UK cat5 They also do 1:2 and 1:4 versions of the same, and I'm sure they'll have HDMI versions. 1
keyboards Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 (edited) We run our old hall over hdmi to Cat 5, only problem we found was with audio for some devices for some reason wouldn't come through ie a playstation, but 99% of everything was laptops/pc's we used, external speakers etc was perfect, we used a lindy I think. nicholab Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 We used these in two locations there are not IP but they work over cat 5e/6. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet%C2%AE-HDMI-Extender-Single-Control/dp/B013T5IQH6/ref=sr_1_11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1528285126&sr=1-11&keywords=hdmi+over+cat6
