I've not looked at these before and now I have, I am somewhat surprised at the cost! £80+? Am I just looking in the wrong places or are they that much? I can't find a PoE one either. Do they exist? One which does both would be perfect but I suspect that is asking a bit much.....

I've not looked for these specifics (I assume HDMI?) but Lindy would be my first port of call for lowish cost, but you can pay whatever you want if you go high-end.

And do you really mean Ethernet (as in a network protocol) or just CAT5 cable?

I've corrected the title to HDMI, and yes, CAT5. I don't want to go high end, I want to go cheap.

This video is quite good. It demonstrates a number of products.

The sum of it is if you want to get something reliable use the IP solution.

Going cheap is fine if it's not a critical application.

Also consider the cable used - some extenders work better with specific cable, others are not too fussy. As a minimum I would be asking for shielded cable, and also minimise the amount of breaks in the chain if you can!

We run our old hall over hdmi to Cat 5, only problem we found was with audio for some devices for some reason wouldn't come through ie a playstation, but 99% of everything was laptops/pc's we used, external speakers etc was perfect, we used a lindy I think. Edited by keyboards
