All good advice above. If you would still like a quote on a new VoIP phone system where we are able to provide and implement the phone system for you. Drop me a message or email me at [email protected]

Hi all,

Project coming up is to ditch our analogue phone system to a voip one.

What have you all done first in this scenario?

I have managed voip systems before so I am familiar with configuring them, but I have never moved from an analogue system before.

Any advice?

Thanks

Hi Qas, in short yes this is possible but it depends on both the networking equipment and the PBX you decide to go with, we are a 3CX house so I know it works on that platform, but the last time I checked it doesn't work on others. Best of luck.

Installed FreePBX, exported a list of extensions from current system, messed about in excel, imported csv, set up IVR.

Switched Cisco 7911 phones to SIP, wrote some xml files, connected those (have to be chan_sip, 8 char passwords), installed 3cxphone on windows, connected that, linphone on android, worked except for a week when it upgraded to a version that was case sensitive when it shouldn't have been, whoops.

Got 2 sites, connecting them all to 1 VM currently, hyper-v replication for 5 min failover if needed, registering with internal dns names so easy to change ip.

Millgate resell Gamma for £7.50 per channel per month, with 5,000 Minutes 01, 02 and 03 and 2,000 UK Mobile Minutes per SIP Channel.

We do less than 1 channels worth of calls a month, so that's a no brainer.

Wonderful to see that i'm paying more going directly to Gamma :(

just SIP channels

Strange, as I understood it they didn't sell those directly, only as a reseller, the prices on that gov site list £4/channel/month

£4.94/channel, no charge for porting numbers, excellent.

Freepbx works great with it, don't need to bother about chansip vs pjsip port numbers, works fine with pjsip on 5060.

Set firewall to only allow connections from gamma IPs, freepbx has its own external ip.

Auto failover with 2 sites, so I can either run 2 freepbx VMs one on each site, or just one, and the calls go to whichever is online.

Got freepbx to email voicemails as mp3s to office365 with a bit of hassle setting up sasl

Incoming caller id number didn't have a 9 added, so couldn't easily return a missed call, there is an option to alter the caller id, but easier just to make the dial plan fine with working without a 9 at the start.

Turns out the correct method to test 999 is to email 999testcalls at bt.com

Do you get any included minutes with those channels? I get charged for porting too.

Yeah, 5000 for 01-03, 2000 for uk mobiles, per channel. I quoted Framework ID RM1045, but my friend who's at a for profit training company got the same price.

Hmmm, think I'll be dropping them an email.
