Apples saturating my Internet connection

Morning,

 

Since moving to SchoolsBroadband, my Internet keeps grinding to a complete halt. We have managed to figure out it is something to do with my Apple Mac's I have, but not more than that. Presumably they are trying to download something in the background, but Schoolsbroadband can't tell me where from. Does anyone have a list of web addresses which I should block by default? Or can tell me how to find out what my Macs are doing?

iCloud turned on? it can chew through upload rate and transfer GB's of data each day. I have seen it affect my MacBook Pro when on a slow net connection to the point where I bought and setup Little Snitch with a low bandwidth profile which blocked it.

whats your case reference number please if you can PM that to me? We should be able to see where all the data is going to (i.e. a content delivery network) and then put some QOS rules to protect these you from these destinations in some form.

@ZeroHour - iCloud is all turned off as these are just classroom PCs which they use GarageBand and Sibelius on.

Little Snitch https://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html is good for finding out what your Macs are up to.

 

The demo mode should be sufficient for what you want to do.

Are the macs not going through a proxy ?

 

I believe smoothwall can bandwith limit URLS

Everything is going through the PROXY. Now we know it is the Macs, SchoolsBroadband have done some packet shaping with their IP range so none of them can use more than 5mb at once. Still a little frustrated that the NetSweeper stuff doesn't let me run a report on what they've been trying to access.
